Warranty question..

I'm a noob to the evolution/turbo world and looking to get an MR pretty soon.

my questions is...will an intake/tune void warranty? is the tune detectable by a tech?

the reason i ask because of the cost of the SST transmission. Mitsu doesn't have the best warranty service and the thought of spending 7k on a faulty transmission troubles me.

any help is appreciated. I'm not looking to track/race but just enjoy a few extra HP and a proper tune.

thanks in advance.

Depends. Since you're in Los Angeles, South Coast Mitsubishi is somewhat lenient compared to other dealers.

I know the 2 dealers I worked at if you change anything on the ECU like a tune it will void the warranty

If you go to COBB tuning SoCal you can get an access port if you need warranty work you can just unmarry the AP and then reapply it. Getting a different exhaust as long as it has a cat, will not effect a warranty nor will an air filter. Keep in mind in order for a manufacture to void a warranty they must prove the mod caused the failure.

so in other words, can a dealership know if you use an accessport and flash a tune on the car? (as long as you unmarry the ap before taking it in for service etc.)

Ive heard from a friend, that was going to get a 2011 sti, told me Subaru has a way of telling if the ecu ever had a AP installed.

No, if the original ECU is restored to factory they cant tell.

There has been talk in the past that every time you flash your ECU it can be tracked. That has never been proven though... As far as warranties with light mods, I have never had an issue with small stuff.

Now if your motor or trans blows, they can probably figure out a way to track it to even an intake ( Would be very hard to track it to a cat-back other than *****ing about back pressure or something)

Appreciate the answers. Looks like I'll be getting an accesspory then. I won't be doing any serious mods for a while. First just going to do looks then start to get into power when my insurance company lowers my damn payment.
