AMS Downpipe, worth it?

so after doing a lot of reading, i've come to the conclusion a downpipe isn't gonna make that much power, coming from an sti this is complete blasphemy. my question is what if i were to get the o2 housing, i.e. AMS widemouth downpipe. In the end i don't plan on upgrading the turbo, injectors or intercooler, i want a simple RELIABLE stage 2. so far here's what i have in the garage.
Perrin Catback
Cobb HFC
AEM intake
my tuner recommended the pierburg boost solenoid. so after a tune is the AMS downpipe worth the $500? how much WHP/WTQ would i see and are there any boost creep issues?

Not a lot of increase, but helps spool a bit. It is noticeable.

Interesting, for me my downpipe was one of my best noticeable mods I've done at first. Opened the car up

From a pure horsepower prespective, you are right, the downpipe will not get you much more horsepower, if any. The stock turbo does not flow enough to make a difference in hp #.

However, that's not to say there isn't some difference in response. You just have to determine if it's worth the cost to you. If you are not going to chance the stock turbo, it probably isn't.

The stock turbocharger can only produce "X" amount of power, but you have a few ways of getting there. Some people do the downpipe first and feel huge gains, others do it last and don't feel near as much.

Good Luck

Sounds like your question has been answered but here is my .02
That is correct that $500 is alot of money for a simple 15-20 whp BUT, if you ever drive an Evo X that does have one, you will notice a significant difference in the response/spool up of the turbo. The butt dyno will def tell the difference as well =)

Yes. The.spool is noticably quicker. I gained 15 whp (untuned) with ams intercooler, cobb ic pipes and turbo inlet. Then i tossed grimmspeed ebc, forge bov, and got it tuned. Gained another 16 whp.

Try 0hp. I'm not sure why you think an aftermarket DP will get you that much power on the stock turbo.

I saw 2 cars dyno'd and tuned back to back, with the only change in mods an aftermarket downpipe. There was a 0 hp difference between the 2 cars after they were each tuned.

You guys talk about gaining power before the tune, who cares! It's all about the #'s after the tune. Now, if you are running higher boost with E85, or plan to intall an aftermarket turbo, then sure a downpipe will provide hp gains. It's also not a bad idea to do the entire exhaust at the same time if you plan on doing either of those in the future.

I agree there is probably some difference is spool and response, but please stop saying there is a difference in hp with a normal bolt-on car. You are spreading misinformation.
