My mechanic says I can get away with honing the cylinder. I can run my fingernail around the cylinder and feel the scrape but it doesnt stop my finger. The other scrapes from the pictures are scrapes you cannot feel at all. There's 2 scrapes I am concerned about. We will hone out the cylinder, check piston clearances, and then go from there. I guess it takes a feel to really judge how much damage there really is. The pictures are taken from a Galaxy Nexus phone.

Cylinder 1 seems to be the problem cylinder. The one scrape on your bottom left screen is what looks really bad. After honing it, we should be able to get it down pretty good. It's not as deep as it looks.

Cylinder 4 is the one with the cracked piston. Cylinder 2 cracked as well but not nearly as bad as cylinder 4. Cylinder 1 with the scrapes had better compression and a good piston.

I'd like to hone your cylinder out sometime.

While the car is down, I figured it would be a good idea to add a little more taste. I've purchased the JDP group buy Carbon Fiber Lip from Lancershop. I've installed it yesterday. Here are the pics:

The new 3 inch turbo inlet to fit the MAP EF3. I chose cobb because the blow off valve remains in the stock location to work with my Cobb Intercooler pipes.

We worked on the car today and completed about 85% of the build. We honed out the cylinders pretty good and 95% of the cylinder wall scoring on cylinder 1 went away (thank god). The cylinders were as smooth as a baby's butt. Pistons, Rods, Rod bearings, Turbo, Exhaust manifold, head studs, ported head, GSC S2s with dual valve springs and retainers, oil pump, timing chain, oil pan, serpentine belt, and thermostat were installed today. work started at 10:30 and ended at 7 pm. Only thing left is the ported intake manifold, fuel rail, injectors, intercooler piping and intake. Here is a picture: I have more pictures coming soon from the build itself.

The remainder of the build will be completed in a few hours time on Tuesday evening . Video of start up and dyno sessions will come soon. Clutch master cylinder, competition stage 2 clutch, and ACT streetlite flywheel will be going in sometime within the 2 weeks.

What was the final bore size after honing? The scores looked deep. Just wondering how you've avoided going to big whilst removing the scores as they looked a few thou deep which would put your bore clearance way out.

I agree with what you said, but if the cylinder's were checked via a feeler gauge and ring gap method in multiple places OK, then he should be ok. The motor will be a tad loose and may consume more oil (but not too much more/1qt or less duing a hard 3000 miles) than stock.

Good luck with the build and work on getting a short block built on the stand if for some reason you need to swap it out in the distant future. You have the skills now heh.

Lots of nice parts.
