You'll like this, here are all the Mitsubishi cars that use the same part # oil filter as the Evo X: http://www.trademotion.com/parts/ind...&siteid=214857 It goes back to 1984, 679 different results, including all 2003-2011 Evolutions

well last weekend i wanted to change my oil in my 2011 . i only had about 1200 miles on it. my evo was a leftover new on the lot. anyway i got $50 credit to use with the purchase of it. so i went and headed to the parts dept to get oil filters. lucky me i get a FNG at the counter . nice fella but it took three sales counter guys to pull up the oil filter on the computer for the evo. not a good start but im patient and after about 20 or so minutes i finally get eight new oil filters . shuuuu glad im good for 8 changes and dont have to wait at my dealers parts counter for a long time. so i thought. so i jack up the car and the filters i was given the part # mz690072 ? and the filter on the car had md356000 on the side of it. the filter from the dealer was skinnier and longer and smaller diameter .the one on the car was a larger diameter and shorter. the mz690072 doesnt look like it would fit because of the smaller diameter . so i got online and checked a few website venders and saw the mz690116 filter. ive changed the oil in every vehicle ive ever owned and thats around 15-16 vehicles iirc. and i dont have alot of faith in dealers -service or parts depts. so i should have known better and double triple checked before picking them up . so i guess im heading back to them next we to exchange them . has anyone use the mz690072 filter?

It's not the "correct" filter, but it will fit and work if you don't feel like taking a trip back to the dealer to exchange them. It's the 2G DSM filter.

(did not cover the shinny, smooth surface).
Neither does the long skinny filter the dealer try's to give me half the time I go in there. I usually have to request the short fatty. I forget the part numbers, but either one works fine. I just don't like that the skinny filter hangs lower. They all fit and work fine though like Kracka said.
I don't know how many more people are going to have to explain the same thing to you before you understand

Some people are set in their ways and when proven wrong they revert to fight or flight mode its been proven a lot in this thread the filters are interchangeable I think the OP just wants to be proven right, which even with all the evidence provided that they are interchangeable he will still refuse to accept it.

Why did you ask this question if you knew the answer?

sorry to bring back an old thread but i am due for an oil change soon and dont know which filter to go with. the previous owner had used oem mits, i have put a ryco filter on but i seem to burn oil as i have topped it up a few times.
I have an JDM evo8 as i am from aus. i am tossing up between an oem filter and a k&n filter ?? for some reason i can get a k&n filter HP1010 cheaper than an oem filter ??
WHICH would you guys recommend? cheers.

Most of us use Mobil 1 filters.
