Stock Turbo Failed

Hey guys , my car is a JDM evo X gsr 38,000KM , its completely stock , stock tune as well. I have some coilovers and advan ad08 thats it. Took it for a midnight cruise , on the way back home I shifted into third and the boost fell off completely it was quite harsh I thought it was the traction control because the car just dropped all power. Pulled over saw nothing wrong , continued home with no boost no check lights no unhealthy engine sounds nothing. Convinced it was a IC pipe leak the next morning i went though every hose in the bay and came up with nothing - worried- but glad no check lights or bad engine noise , no smoke nothing. Took it to the shop and we were sure it was a turbo problem , removed the turbo the compressor side was pristine no shaft play rust or damage. However on the exhaust hotside the turbine wheel had sheard clean off the shaft!! And was missing from the turbo it clearly was blown out , we later found it in the cat converter of the midpipe haha.

I cant understand how this can happen off such a relatively low mileage stock car , didnt find alot of cases on the forums about this either. My oil is changed religiously , I always do a pre start inspection before i go for a drive to check the various levels of fluids. Engine was compression tested and is perfectly healthy , spark plugs intact and clean no knocking or strage sounds. What ever destroyed it wasnt something from the engine.

You can see an impression on the back of the wheel , my guess is the blade separated out of metal fatigue and in that split second the chaos occured. Any thoughts? Advice on new turbo?

Ive never seen that before. Since its all stock isn't it warrantied?

You can check out the MAP EF series turbos, FP turbos, or CBRD turbos. All of them are stock frames. If you wanted a JDM turbo, HKS makes one, but their are other turbos that flow better IMO.

this reminds me of my mechanics of materials class back in engineering school.

i remember reading about brittle vs smooth fracture/breaks. this depends on the type of material and based on the type of break you can tell a few things.

the fins not sure about, but the shaft looks like a smoother break, with steel and malleable metals this is supposed to be the case. I dont remember my materials science as well as I wish I did.

anyways a quick google search brought me to these 2 links click if you dare it gets pretty technical
