sputtering sound when WOT

Hey all,

I recently put on my ETS intake and love the intake. However, I started to notice that there is a weird sputtering sound when I step on the gas. It only seems to happen when I WOT at around 2-3K RPM to build full boost. It also only lasts for a second or two and goes away...

I logged a couple of runs and both show that it is building boost just fine all the way up to 27 PSI.

Not sure if this is just normal sounds from the turbo or if this is a leaky BOV or some other issue.

Any thoughts or input will be greatly appreciated.

My car did that too with an ETS intake, FP Black, and Stock BOV.

But we're not suppose to be WOT from that "low" of an RPM. Evo engines don't like that...

I thought it was a leaky BOV too, (I'm pushing 27 psi) so I got a Synapse Diverter Valve. It took care of that issue, but I now sometimes get compression surges at like half throttle instead..

I see. Thanks for the input. I guess it's not a leaky BOV as many of the logs I did show it building and holding boost all the way. Just normal turbo noise. phew! haha

If its sputtering that's not normal. Are you retuned for it? If not you may be running lean. Quick way to blow the motor. Anytime you get tuned your setup for optimal on those current mods. Adding something like a well efficient intake could make the tune go so far out of wack that at some point it will blow you motor. I would lay off going into to much boost if you haven't retuned yet.

yeah it has been retuned after the intake and down pipe. I guess sputter was a bad way to put it but couldn't think of the word. it's more of a shh shh shh sound only when WOT under 3K RPM. Over 3K, no issues.

have you found a fix for this? my car does the same, when i go over 30% throttle from 2000-3000 rpm its sputters and back fires if i throttle harder.... but after 3000k rpm its runs perfectly fine. I just got retunned and the tuner spent 2 hours try to fix it and nothing worked in his end....
