Exhaust Advice

Im new to the X, my husband has a modded IX that we currently share... I am heavily leaning towards buying an X once we're out of Germany. (Besides, cant go wrong with his & hers Evos, lol) I do not have any big plans for it, despite my personal history of extensively modifying my cars. Just a few things to personalize it a bit.

One thing I do not like is how quiet the factory exhaust is. I test drove the MR last year and I cant recall from memory much of a tone from it, and youtube videos do not do it justice either. I also don't want something loud and obnoxious, I love how our IX sounds but it's a little too much for me at this point. Theres a heavy drone on the highway and the cabin is pretty loud. His goals with the IX lean away from family car, whereas I want one for a family car...

Im looking for some advice on an aftermarket option that opens it up a little bit but does not turn it into something excessive. Every aftermarket option I've heard thus far has been quite a jump from the factory tone. Even just an axelback muffler replacement? Id like to keep it catted too so im really not looking for a full turboback and getting it retuned, etc. We have EvoScan but im just not interested in going that route with the next car.

I was initially thinking muffler delete. Coming from a Cobalt SS... On the LNF turbo SS's it still kept it relatively quiet but gave it a lil more of a purr.. But it appears the Evo gets pretty loud without a muffler.

So if anyone has any recomendations on an exhaust or muffler replacement that is less restrictive and just gives it a lil more of an Evo sound, it'd be much appreciated. Just doing a lil research

Certain packages of the GSR X include sound deadening material like the MR comes with OEM. I have the X GSR w/ sound deadening. Speciality X w/ test pipe infant & 5y/o. No problems.

Hmm... Almost a lil raspy for my taste.

Not bad but I feel im looking to find something a lil quieter. Im not even sure if they make a conservative aftermarket exhaust for an Evo, lol. Thats what im hoping you guys can help me determine

Our baby will be born in less than 2 months, but it will still be awhile before were back in the US and ready to buy, so she wont be teeny anymore but it's still gonna be a mama car :P

I have the HKS Super Turbo Muffler on mine. It's a little bit louder than stock. It sounds the same as in this video.

Once again, I have to chime in with the ETS V2 Quiet exhaust. In my opinion it has the perfect mix of loudness, deepness and grunt. If you have neighbors, they won't hate you in the early mornings or late night

the blitz regular dual exhaust not the quad tip is the quietest i have heard it's just a little pricey,or if money isn't an issue the quad tip version is a great piece.
but if you're spending that kind of money just get the akropovic and keep you're stock diffuser.

If your not looking for a volume increase I wouldn't change out the exhaust. Even the quiter exhausts I've heard on the Xs are a good bit louder than factory (the reduced baffling in the muffler to allow unrestricted exhaust flow to increase performance along with the necessary piping usually 3'). Why not just remove the resonator and keep your factory muffler. Makes a slight difference with a nice little grumble yet not much louder than stock. Easy and cheap mod, keep you from spending $$$ on exhaust you might regret.

Thanks for the input everyone. Im assuming the HKS is just an axelback muffler replacement? I do like that it appears you can still hear engine whine, therefore it must not be too overpowering. The ETS V2 Quiet doesnt seem like too bad an option either. They both do seem like a big jump over stock tho.

Im not remotely interested in spending the amount on an exhaust system near the price of an Akropovic, lol. That would be a waste of money for my goals here, lol.

Sunwalker thats the type of advice im looking for as well. I wouldn't mind opening it up, however being that it's not the priority to squeeze power out of it, I just don't think its necessary.

Granted i dont have the car yet, so the mod bug hasnt bit me... Lol. Resonator removal might be a good option until I find I need something more. My husband was already trying to comvince me of getting a base flash for it, lol.

Trust me i love agressive performance builds... But ive had my share of project cars. Im looking into staying warrantied and keeping her for a long reliable time, lol.

Appreciate the info everyone takes some time to get used to a new platform.

The HKS Super Turbo Muffler is a catback. I don't know why they call it that.

I'd have to go ahead and say ets v2 quiet as well.. Loud enuf to let you know its there when you get on it, yet no real drone via highway driving.

Also early morning starts wont wake the neighbors.

Another plus, You can pick up the quiet catback and later on if u wana be a jackass and wake up the neighbors you can pickup their Extreme rear section and change them out in 5 min.

Sadly I cant seem to want to take the extreme off anymore so my quiet section just sits around! hahah
