Question evo x diff

i recently bought a 08 evo x gsr. after 14 days of driving it the transfer case and rear end went out of it. i called sheppard trans and they said they could rebuild my transfer case. on the rear diff they suggested to buy a used evo ix rear diff and send that to them to get rebuilt and they would send the new hardware to install the diff. has anyone done this? and does anyone have a evo ix rear diff they wanna sell?

Man I'm sorry to hear that bro...on the flip side at least you'll have a built t-case and rear diff lol. As far as swapping to the IX rear diff your moving from a proactive to a reactive differential. While the differential will technically work your bypassing and technically eliminating the S-WAC system.

Honestly if I were you I would just send Shep the X diff and have them rebuild it with the upgraded diff pins from the 2010+ model years (Shep usually does this anyways but it never hurts to ask). So in essence its not really compatable....hopefully I can find the thread that goes into more detail and the specifics on why, if I find it I'll be sure to post it up for ya.

^The diff pins you are talking about are in the transmission unit, not the transfer case or rear differential.

OP - How do you know both the transfer case and rear differential went out? I don't see it very likely that they both fail at the same time. Have you confirmed this? Just guessing? Taking the word of some backyard mechanic?

if you do swap the rear diff, the rear axles also have to be swapped. the x axles cannot be used on the ix rear end.

+1 to Kracka's question... but if you do need both, check out Jack's Transmission (CO Springs). They rebuild everything to do with X drivetrains, and I've only heard good things about them.

Jack's would be my go-to shop if I ever needed drivetrain service for my X.

I was told this by valley imports in fargo. Shep told me that they don't do x differentials anymore because the aluminum housing cracks from the uprgraded parts being to strong for the housing. And shep told me on changing over to the evo ix diff when he sends it back it comes with everything to make it work.

If i remember well, this is true unless you have the 'light version evo' RS or something like that you don't need to swap the axles.
So better tell sheptrans wich version you got to get surprises.
