FP Red or Black?

Just wanted to throw out the question on which FP turbo should be put on. I have all the mods to support it, im just not sure if I should go red or black. Anyone have any experience with either of them?

Without knowing your power goals and driving style, we can't help you. Might as well flip a coin

Faster spool, lower top end power = Red

Slightly slower spool, higher top end power = Black

No. Depends on size of engine, if you do any head work, what type of fuel set up you go with (size injectors, pump, etc...), depends on amount of boost you use, what type of fuel.

Way too many factors come into play. I gave you the basics and that's as far as I can go. Look at other people dyno charts and what set up they used/have and see what you're looking at that way.

Research, SEARCH and SEARCH. It's the name of the game.

Both turbos are tiny. So I wouldn't worry about lag.

Since they cost the same, I'd go with the black.

I agree - the difference in spool is so small - both the red and black use the same turbine, the black just has a larger compressor.

and now that they are all BB - its gets up to speed just fine.

I will tell you this though- I had a lot of trouble with the Red at 6000 ft elevation, it would surge a lot, so I had to back off the mivec. The black tends to not have as much surge at this altitude.

I would have to disagree with this comment to a degree. If you go from Stock Turbo to Black you can notice the "lag".

I just discussed this today with Cobb, and with my built and sleeved motor and power goals of 450 current over 500 in the future, the FP Green is the one that I am going with.

The FP Black is one of the hardest hitting turbos I have ever experienced though, btw, for being so small....

You sleeved your motor for plans for maxing out at 500whp?

This is how you gauge the technical prowess of some members on this board.

I sleeved my motor to go bigger as an option later. Why not do the sleeves and be done with it to have the platform instead of not doing it and regretting it.

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
