EVO X Clutch blew @ 10K miles, Need advise please!!!
OK Need some help guys. I have a 2013 EVO X GSR with 10,400 miles. I bought the car new in June 2013. Right around 4,000 miles I did some work to the car. Cobb Intake, Cobb BOV, and Cobb Access port V2. I have it tuned with a cobb stage 2 map. Have never had any problems with the car until it hit 10,000 miles. It started slipping very little, it progressively got much worse very quickly. The clutch is now completely gone. I called Mitsu and they did tell me about the clutch master cylinder recall. My questions is this. Can the clutch master cylinder cause the clutch to blow like this? I would like to know before I have the car put back to stock parts and have it towed to the dealer. I do not want the dealer to replace the clutch if I cant get it covered under warranty. If anyone has experience or advise please share with me, I would like my car fixed as soon as possible, I miss it the past few days.
Also if the warranty will positively not cover the clutch should I have the car towed to the dealer to get the recall work done prior to having the new clutch installed?
My next question, Give me some options on the best clutch without spend $2k on parts.
Thanks
E

It could be the CMC but like TravisF stated... drivers fault?

Subject: Upcoming Safety Recall Affecting Certain 2008 - 2013 Lancer Evolution – Clutch Master Cylinder
On September 18, 2013, MMNA submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a Defect Information Report regarding certain 2008 - 2013 Lancer Evolution vehicles built from December 12, 2007 – March 5, 2013. Due to an insufficient bonding strength of clutch master cylinder components, separation may occur, resulting in fluid leakage. This condition results in the inability to engage or disengage the clutch, limits the ability to shift the transmission into or out of a gear, and can create a no start condition once the vehicle comes to a stop.
In November, you will receive a formal/official dealer notification from MMNA regarding the above safety recall. You are receiving this advance, informal letter because:
1. NHTSA will announce the recall on their website shortly after receipt of our Defect Information Report, and MMNA wants to assist you in handling any customer inquiries you may receive regarding this recall.
In the event you receive any direct customer inquiries regarding this issue, please feel free as necessary to refer them to the MMNA Customer Relations Hotline at (888) 648-7820. We appreciate your patience while we make the necessary preparations to launch this recall.
Sincerely,
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
BTW, did you receive this recall notice my mail??

When the CMC pops the clutch pedal sticks to the floor. That's what they mean by inability to engage or disengage the clutch. If the pedal still works then the CMC is fine and the worn clutch is from wear and tear.

So in this case then... Warranty will not cover it
Did u take the clutch pill out ?? If you launch with it in you will burn a clutch up. That or you just need to learn how not to ride the clutch as much. I replaced mine at 30k and it looks new still and I was making 400whp.
I've heard of dealerships replacing clutches under warranty. It may be worth it to go back to stock and play stupid, like blaming the clutch going out on the cmc problem. But to me it sounds like you might just be burning up the clutch yourself. I got over 40k miles on my original clutch with plenty of launching. No slipping at all when I put my 6 puck clutch in

If you just have the intake and BOV, seems to be safest to just stock out and uninstall your AP. Takes an hour or two but worth your time if they don't pay any mind to mods playing any factor.
Maybe you'll get lucky and it will be covered, who knows.

Get a hold of maperformance.com. They have great deals on clutches and flywheels plus they have excellent customer service. Just let them know what hp/torque you believe you are gonna acheieve and how you want the clutch to feel and they will get you taken care of. Your stock flywheel might be able to be resurfaced since you only had 10k miles on it. I had to replace mine cause I didn't change my clutch till 60k and it was destroyed. Resurfacing is only about 30 dollars for a flywheel at NAPA. I ended up spending around 300 for the new flywheel (competition lightweight flywheel) and 450-550 on the new clutch (competition stage 2). I also bought an act monoloc collar for 70 dollars and a maperformance upgraded cmc kit with a new oem cmc for like 250 dollars. Both of these last things are HIGHLY recommended. So that's 1170 in parts without new fluids. Fluids will run you another like 100 to 150 dollars. I did all the work with my friend so no labor costs. Most places charge around 1000 dollars in labor. So if you get someone to do it you will be looking at 2k or a little more. We did it ourselves cause I wanted to make sure no corners were crossed. Hope that gives you a perspective on costs.
