If you have the funds, now would be the best time to rebuild the engine. However, despite the fact that you have modified your Evo, it has only 6,000 miles and is less than a year old. It could have been a factory defect that caused the issue, who knows? You do whatever you feel is right and whatever is in your budget. Note: If you do take it to the dealer, make sure that it WILL in fact be covered under warranty BEFORE you sign off on the repair/replacement, or you will be stuck with the bill after they "discover neglect/abuse/modifications." Because I know dealers have went ahead and repaired the vehicle and then declared fault to customer afterwards. Best of luck!

Whatever shop you use for the new block please make sure you follow these steps that AMS has so you don't get shavings in the new block. If you want a awsome short block i would go with theres. I'm running their 2.4L with my MHI!

Spool is super quick but runs out of steam after 6500. I have it tune to 27psi and it tapers to 22psi by 8000. 93 octane

I would. It never hurts. I do my own work but I'm sure if you take it to a shop that works on Evo's they would know what to do. Then again, now days it's pretty hard to find a reputable shop.

It is exactly what I thought an AP is all these years. Sorry, I stand corrected.

Turboman,
Was this the explanation from the shop?
I ask because if the plug was sparking, it was igniting the mixture, if it wasn't sparking and the cylinder was filling as you stated--then you would have had a dead miss--firing on 3 cylinders--something you couldn't help but notice and it would take quite a bit of time to fill the cylinder from the injector--again something that you couldn't help but notice. ( mixture would be pushed out the exhaust as well, never really "filling" the cylinder) A cracked or missing casing on the plug is most notably caused by detonation--ie back to the mixture/tune.
Hate to see you getting what appears to be "odd" diagnosis. Good Luck.
