Yep. Happens all the time. Engine revving merrily with all the valves working and no codes, yet, one cylinder fills with fuel due to a non-firing NGK sparkplug with Denso written on it. I think we've had several threads on exactly this in this week alone, although not all have managed to maintain 25 psi on three cylinders at half-throttle as they died. Your car was special. We'll all miss it.

I actually called the dealer and asked a general question.. I asked what plugs come from factory in the evo x's... they said denso... so im not sure why some ppl are OEM plugs unless different dealers get cars with different plugs... im just trying to figure it out...

Probably not related, but the following was recently overheard in a coffee-shop in Connecticut:

"Hey, remember that guy we sent home with a tune that put him at about 95% IDC at WOT? Yeah? Well, he blew bottom end out. But luckily, he's been posting about it for a week and, from what he's been writing, no-one is gunna blame us for it. But we really should try to keep some larger injectors in stock, because not everyone will be like him."

Your cylinder isn't going to fill with fuel and hydro lock because the plug isn't firing when the engine is running on the other 3 cylinders. Even without firing, there is enough airflow in and out of the dead cylinder to keep it from filling with fuel.

A leaking injector / blown head gasket can fill the cylinder when the motor is not running, and cause a hydro lock scenario when you go to start it. But that is obviously not what happened here.

Apologies. To be honest, the next thing overheard in said Connecticut coffee-shop was something about OE NKG plugs, so it couldn't have been you and your car that was being discussed. I should have included that earlier.

I had a pretty similar thing happen to my car but fortunately it didn't do any damage. The tip on my number 4 plug got eaten up and spit out. After tearing the motor down and realizing the only thing it did was just scuff up the top of the piston, I said "screw it I'm not sticking that back in" and purchased the AMS 2.4 short block. GL with your build!

peace out

I have decided to start smoking crack. In a year or so I will post again on the forum here and be more inline with ya'll... Peace out!

Good luck with your new engine. My 1st built motor (4g63 ross/eagle) lasted 1500 miles. I overlooked one oil fitting somehow and it didn't leak for that long. Be careful and double check everything.

Hey bro I just had a similar thing happen to my 13' that was making 370/350. I have full bolt-ons, minus a snail and mine made it to 20k on the clock. I'll chalk it to my neglect with a combination of the tune/gas. I was still on my stock plugs which was my neglect part. The top of my plug broke off into my 3rd cylinder. I haven't pulled the block out, I scoped it with a camera and it put a hole in my piston. It didn't actually put a window in anything else, I guess I got lucky. I'm in the same predicament as you're sitting at right now. I decided to go with a short block from mitsu. I found one on eBay for $2495.00, I called my local dealer and they said they could do $2400. They'll offer a 1yr warranty and like other people (to include the douche canoe's) have stated, just chalk it up as lessons learned man. I'm going to have one of the big evo shops tune it and not eff around with the local shops. My block is still usable so I'll have it re-sleeved and prob beefier pistons/rings and have it for later. Like you, I wanted the most cost efficient solution since I was about to sell her THE DAY BEFORE my prob. So if you're good with tools, $3k will get you back on the road, with the other $600.00 in new gaskets, fluids, plugs etc. Good luck man I totally feel your pain right now!
