4th gear pop out?

So I have been searching the forums and cannot seem to find a solid answer...

I purchased a 2014 Evo GSR two days ago. It has 15,000 miles, short shifter, UMS tune at 355hp, injectors, front mount... blah blah blah...

Tonight I was having a little fun on the freeway and when I shifted into fourth and was pulling to go into 5th it suddenly popped out... Got scared and let off boost and shifted into 5th... Decided to downshift and see if maybe I did not engage fully... It did it again... I babied the car on the way home and it did not pop out after that. It seems anything over 5500 RPM and it pops out...

Any ideas as to what is going on? If this is in need of a rebuild I am just selling this... Just got done rebuilding my 9 tranny...

Well the short shifter could be installed wrong or the other option which sounds like you may already know the 4th gear syncro may be damaged. You could also try a fluid change but that is a pretty new car you have there so I would imagine the shifter is installed wrong.

I had bad syncros in my 9 and they grinded very bad.... There is absolutely no grinding.

I am thinking it might be the short shifter... Or I should say I am hoping. Lol.

Going to install the short shifter next week and see if that makes any difference... if not I am going back to stock ecu and everything else and going to bring it in under warranty.

Have you adjusted the clutch pedal? I have read if you increase the engagement point too high this could happen.

If you cables are adjusted correctly, you will need to go into the gear box. Sorry....

I kind of would be surprised that the tranny would be so damaged already with such low miles on such a new car.

Has not been adjusted. Stock clutch.

Yeah I am looking into it next weekend. Going to adjust shift linkage if I need and install stock shifter in hopes it is just a bad short shifter.

I am so lost as to why it is popping out. If I keep my hand on the shifter in 4th it obviously stays in but if I do not have my hand on it it'll pop out.

I would just swap it back to the stock shifter base and take it in to mitsu. I wouldn't take it with the short shifter because im sure they will blame that if there is any internal damage.

Sounds like a issue with the short throw shifter. Mine is stock and I have 0 issues.

I mean UMS did the install so I figured either it was a bad install or something internally is not working with the short shifter... I am almost convinced that is the issue. Previous owner said he babied the car and looking at the map he has it looks like the car was rarely abused.

I had this issue on my 14. Was on the highway hitting boost and then I hear myself revving to the moon. So I was like HOLY **** and put it in 5th. Then was like ok lets try again then back in 4th hit boost and pops out. Ended up being the syncros. Mitsu replaced the whole unit since car had like 6k at the time on it. Any update from your side OP?
