3rd Gear Synco / New Evo owner
Hi everyone,
So I am new to the Evo X, but I will picking mine up hopefully this week. I am being told from the previous owner that the 3rd gear synco has started to get a little rough. I did some calling around to some local shops and I keep being told it's roughly a 2k fix. To me that seemed a little high but like I said I am new to evo x.
So I called Shep Transmissions to get their thoughts on it, since they built the transmission that was in my 1g eclipse years and years ago and they pointed out that their rebuild option with labor is about $1800.
My question is, is 2k right for replacing a worn out synco and if it is why shouldn't I just send the tranny to shep for a full rebuild?
Also if anyone knows of any Evo friendly shops in central Pa, I would love to hear them. I know of Don's and CBRD but thats it.
Thanks a head of time!

When you call a place on the phone, they're probably quoting for removing and reinstalling the trans, as well as replacing the part.
Notchy 3rd gear on the X's is pretty common. I would drive it to see how bad it actually is before spending any money on it. Then if you think it needs gone through, send it to TRE.

My 3rd gear in my '15 with 13k miles on it is notchy too. I'd say it's probably common.
Check it out and see how it drives. If it's not blocking gears just put fresh oil in and keep driving.
$1800-2500 for a full rebuild (not including R&R of the transmission) is pretty fair. A lot of clips, pins, bearings, seals that you shouldn't re-use and it has to come all the way apart to replace 1 synchro. If you do it, just shell out the extra for a full stock or better rebuild.
