Evo X MR: so many fluids!
Evo X MR: so many fluids!
Hei all!
I serviced my Evo X MR 2009 and changed the engine and SST oils (including engine, SST, air and cabin filters).
Next weekend i would like to do rear diff and transfer case fluids, is the Motul Gear Competition 75w140 (nr: 101161) the right alternative oil? Or is the Motul Gear 300 LS 75w90 better? Can't find the Diaqueen LSD Gear in Europe.
After that i should be good with the "core" fluids and oil right? Car has 45-50k miles, wasn't driven for 3-4 years.
In a couple of months i will change the brakes fluid, and i am monitoring the level of the reservoir in the trunk.
Will change the coolant and power steering in 6+ months.
Sorry if i'm asking a lot of questions, but no dealership here can service my car so i have to learn all myself (and i'm enjoying it!)
EDIT: Rear diff and T-case is just drain and fill? Or do i need to fill, run the car, check and fill again if needed?

I use the thicker fluid in cars I service, it offers better protection. So, yes, the 75w140 is fine. Be sure to change the the fluid in the torque mechanism side of the rear diff. The clutches sit in a fluid bath of ATF that needs to be changed. There's two drain and two fill plugs on the rear diff, one pair is for the gear oil, the other pair is for the ATF.
Thanks for your reply!
I will go for 75w140 then.
Regarding the ATF, is the one that needs Diamond ATF SPIII i imagine; what can i use that i can find in Europe? (like Motul, Castrol ecc)
I can only find it on ebay and i would have to pay 35$ + 35$ for shipping and i don't like it.

Most universal synthetic ATF is approved for SPIII.
The rear diff and tcase aren't exactly a simple drain and fill. You have to fill them, drive the car for a like a half mile, and then check the level by pulling the fill plug, fluid should dribble out.
I find it's easiest to fill them through the drain plug. Just use a pump and an adapter fitting with 3/8 NPT pieces. Pump in a whole quart, plug it up, drive it around the block, put it back in the air, pull fill plug and let the excess come out.

Ok thanks.
By the way, the torque mechanism (ATF) is connected to the reservoir bottle on the right side of the trunk? Because i have no idea what is inside that bottle, and i don't want to mix two different fluids.
And oh, i just realized i have the Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75w-140 that i use for the cardan of my BMW motorcycle, i could use that instead of the Motul.

So, the fluid bath for the torque mechanism, and the fluid in the bottle in the trunk are separate fluid. The fluid in the bottle is for the ACD/AYC control system, which is sealed. It is used to actuate clutches via the pump. You don't need to touch it.
The drain and fill on the diff housing is for the fluid bath. This is the fluid the clutches sit in for lubrication and heat management. Changing this fluid has zero effect on the fluid in the bottle.

You are probably saving me! Thanks A LOT! I really appreciate the time you are putting in answering my questions.
Dexron 3 and sp3 are interchangeable in the Evo X? Because Motul Multi ATF is the pratically the same of the Castrol Transmax Dex III Multivehicle (that i could have at a better price), and on the Motul page they state that can be used within the SP III standard of Mitsubishi.
