Mystery squealing

Hi folks , Im having trouble diagnosing this squeal sound on my 2015 evo x fe

happens when cold but pretty much goes away after 5 miles . It does not change with clutch use, shifting, speed, braking , hard steering , bumpy roads

the S-AWC light has come on once when filming the video and was off again after a key cycle

Sounds like a v-belt screech. Check your auxiliary drive belt tension - the one that drives the alternator, power steering and A/C pumps - you should not be able to twist it more than a 1/4 turn.

I hope it’s that easy , I’ll check these asap.

it sounds like belts , however If I’m cruising down the road and pop it in neutral there’s no change , if I stop the car and rev it there’s no squeal . I can understand engine RPM has a direct impact on the serpentine belt but Forward motion no matter the RPM or load ?

If it is still screeching with the engine off then the other one to look for is wind noise caused by a small gap in the door, window or sunroof seals. I had this noise when my winter roof rack was loaded up with snowboards and the air pressure generated above the roof over 70 mph forced air through the sunroof seals.

I had that on my 90 Galant VR4 back in the day, was t-boned and rebuilt however the door never sealed properly , I would still have that car today if it wasn't for that . Its unfortunately not that either , below 5mph its silent, and from 5 all the way to 100mph at 7krpm the sound remains the same all the way to 100 at 7krpm. its been so cold here and the driveway has about 2 inches of ice on it so I cant really do much. what's odd is when you first start out out it makes the noise then stops a sec then starts again. I did just notice that my 2 piece rotors, all 4 are slotted, at some point previous owner put on Girodisc replacements, soaking them good at the car wash did not make much difference.

Looking for the Previous owner of FE #334 to maybe shed some light on what this might be , and maybe some history on the car

I think it might be the rotors ? PO had put griodisk replacements on , and Carvana probably put auto zone new pads on them, any stock photo install I see of the griodisk barely has a lip where the brake indicater rests and the hub meets the rotor . Also the car just threw p0138 code, and is have symptoms of a failed booster or booster check valve yet another issue. This car had to have seen frequent track days

Hey just to add to this thread, if it still sounds like a belt type noise, check the belt tensioner itself, not that it’s bad. It could be but I have seen lots of evo x belt tensioner a installed where they are crooked! Not really sure what causes this other then a cross threaded bolt or just faulty install error but I have seen it numerous times. When it’s installed this way it still works but the pulley is not correctly inline with the belt line. It can cause belt or pulley noises. Maybe something to check. Post up if you get something figured out. Best of luck.

Borrowed this photo from another evo X thread to show what I’m talking about.

I agree that it sounds just like belts or even a failing idler pulley bearing witch is odd because with the engine off transmission in neutral 40mph coast it’s still present which rules out all of that. Sucks if it wasn’t near zero out I’d be able to check more. Right now I’ll I can do is beg the dealer and get forum input

This ^ Carvana replaced the pads without resurfaced rotors , creating the griodisk pig squeal Record player. PO mush have ran smoked track pads before selling to Carvana

Decided to replace hub/bearing wile I was in there

will update if resurfacing and new pads solves it

The Squeal was 100% the driveshaft Carrier bearing, the full driveshaft was replaced at the dealer though Carvana’s Warranty
