Unhappy 4B11T Blown

My first road trip since my wife bought me a Evo X MR ended in before it really started with a sudden hole in the block, no warnings, no abnormal noise, just a slow commute through town, less than 40KMPH , is this something that happens? I thought these engines were bullet proof?

Thats a good question, dont really have history on it, my mate recons the previous owner may have hit something and weakened it. I was told it was a pre-production model, according to its VIN, so it's one of the very first X's. Potentially is the original block, done 140K

A sudden whole in the block usually means a connecting rod broke or came apart. It could have spun a bearing from lack of maintenance and kicked the rod. Or the car was previously modded, returned to stock, and on its last leg.

This feels true to me,. The dealer when asked if the care had been fully serviced, said yes, and then when we finalised the purchase, said, Ok lets book it in for a service oO
