*Official* don't like the X thread
The 4g63 could no longer pass the newer emission standards. The 4g63 couldn't be used anymore because the engine runs dirty when compared to current engines. As nice as an engine that the 4g63 was it is now too old, too heavy, and too dirty to be used in any production car of tomorrow.
If your seeking superficial luxury and prestige, Mitsbishi is not the place to look. PERIOD.
If you wanted a rally bred street rocket, and were either young enough to think it was cool, or were old enough not to care, an Evo was the car to have.
I feel the X is somewhat of an akward compromise and shaky ground for Mitsu.
Ugly or not, Subaru is still in WRC (not just grp. N), and from the looks of the new sti, they are in it to win it.
I feel like all the "what I hate about my 8/9" thread people won out here. I always felt what made an evo an evo was what Mitsu chose NOT to spend money on.
Is an e36 M3 better than an e30 M3? Of course, yet I would still rather have an e30.
Either way, I'm gratefull they made the car I'm really into and it's only fair they take care of some of the other people's tastes and hopefully break into a larger market.

, cause I'm sure it could have been tuned to be a cleaner burning engine.Idk I'm just a Die Hard 4G63 guy
. Oh and IMO the TME Evo was the last real Evo, but that's cause I think it's the sexiest
Yeah that's true but I really would have liked to see them maybe lighten the engines weight, and really put the MIVEC to good use

Yup, in the rest of the world the Evo VI was the last true Evo. Evos VII-IX are considered too heavy and soft.

+1
Reality is starting to set in with the new EVO. I've been one of biggest supporters, but everyday it just seems like it is something new I have to defend it about and starts to make me think, "Damn Mitsubishi you could have did a better job with the EVO X!"

I think the big problem is that the car wasn't designed for guys like us. The SST, IMHO, will have trouble being modded. Audi/VW tuners are still having trouble with the DSG tranny. I guess you could always go with the 5MT, but then you can't get the MR.
I look at it this way. I don't trust Mitsu to get this new Evo right simply because they are targeting a new audience. Last time they targeted a "new audience" for one of their cars, we got that horrible all-new Eclipse in 2000. The last "real" Eclipse was the 3rd generation. Each Eclipse after that got worse and it's all because they targeted a new audience. I think the same thing is happening with the Evo X.
Off topic here..... I don't know if someone already mention this cause i didn't read the entire thread, but i think people are forgetting something very important...they need a lot of profit to survive cause remember, Mitsu was in still is in financial trouble.
The EVO is or was just a halo car....Mitsu doesn't make much profit out of EVO sales, and lets face it....the only cool car Mitsu had around 2003/2004 was the EVO....and was the only car that sold by itself...in other words.....it was and still is a success for Mitsu, and because of this they are going to take full advantage of the success of the EVO to survive...meaning a softer more friendly version to get more sales and draw a bigger audience and customers
Now on topic
Do i hate the X looks?.....yes i do...and i am extremely disappointed with its specs so far. EVO's were about performance first, and **** anything and everything else type of car....it was raw, cruel, jumpy ride, uncomfortable, gas guzzling , race car for the street....and put a smile on my face every time i stepped on the gas
But like i said above, Mitsu needs do to this as a way of getting out of there financial problems....i rather have downgraded version of the EVO that no EVO at all....but damn...why they had to make it so ugly

I agree a little bit on the financials. Yes, a profitable Evo will help them. But, it's not a silver bullet. They need the Galant, base Lancer, Endeavor and Outlander to be successful and profitable. Those cars represent the 4 largest vehicle segments (except for pick up truck which is #1). If they can't win in those segments, it won't matter what type of Evo they try to sell.
Maybe they can convince consumers that every Mitsu has a little bit of the Evo in it...but that's a stretch that I don't believe they can accomplish. Remember...the Evo is unknown to probably over 95% of the US.

I feel for you. You're very passionate about this new car. You've probably posted over 200 posts about it

Btw those horrible eclipses kept mitsu in the market and they have far fewer problems than any of the first 2 gens. When is the last time you seen a 3g eclipse on the side of the road? I see a 1g, 2g eclipse on the side of a freeway daily and one time comming back from college a kid infront of my on a red light lost a front wheel on his 2nd gen eclipse.
