Importing the EVO X to Canada
Just wondering if dealers would consider selling the Evo to a canadian resident
The canadian money is a bit stronger theses days and the EVO X is quite a lot less $$$ than the MSRP in Canada.
AS for example for a WRX STI = 48 9995$
In the USA = about 31 000$
In Canadian dealers don't realize this quite a bit of costumers would be glad to pay less for more.
Any ideas?

The problem becomes warranty on the car since it was bought in the US. Some Manufactures wont do warranty if the car is from a DIf Country, I have no idea what Mitsubishi stance on that is tho. Theres actualy big class action law suit filed in Toronto over the price diference.

The laws are the same regulation should not different that much. ALthough i have heard on this board that the canadian evo is an inch or so longer. In either case it sounds to me that even if the US version doesnt comply it can be made to comply if it has to do with safety issues.
In either case, I am interested in seeing what they final offcial charge will be from the canadian dealer

The difference is going to be in the bumper, same issue that apllied to the previous evos with the 5km crash test and the front mount intercooler. To remedy this, mitsu has increased the size of the front bumper. So my guess will be that in order to import the evo X here you are going to need to swap the Canadian bumper onto it, plus you will have to do all the extras that come along with importing a car to Canada. You can read these at the Registrar of Imported Vehicles website. Of course they may just not allow American models in at all, which has been seen with other models.

The Evo X is going to be available in Canada, however, the conversation is about Canada's car prices. It will be significantly cheaper to buy in the states and import.

which brings me back to my point. Its illegal based on free trade laws to semi manipulate rules that prevent people within a free trade system to buy cars from across our border lines. things like denying warranty or instructing dealers not to sell to canadians is a violation of the rules. problem is there is no lobby group in canada or the US pushing for this. well ok no in canada but its in american interest in terms of sales and profits

Instructing sellers not to sell to Canadians is actually a violation of Anti-competition laws and monopoly laws; however, NAFTA technically is not violated as individual companies have the right to choose who they sell to as long as they are not discriminating. There is a lawsuit in the US, filed by a Canadian couple claiming that car dealerships are discriminating based on country of origin. This case has yet to be sent to court and probably won't be. The issue is fully in the hands of the manufacturers and the dealership should not be blamed, nor should they see losses; however, neither should the Canadian consumer. That being said, until Mitsu and all the other auto companies decide to lower prices this problem will plague the Canadian economy and auto makers profits. Let's just hope the idiots decide to give us a bit of a break.

Thanks for your replys guy's I guess I will wait and see if the goverment allows the 2009 model to be imported.
Transport Canada will eventually put the car on the list or the black one that is if as said, the bumper might change for those stupid crash test regulations.
Without it I would be driving and evo IX in a heartbeat.
Lets hope dealers sees that quite of bit of business if available from canadian buyers.
