Evo X Official Weight
Wow that's one big b*tch! I think I'm going to have to hold out on the X for now and maybe pick one up a couple years later when there's a used market.
The question now what is different between the USDM model and the JDM model that attributes for the extra 200 lbs? I thought they both had the same amount of airbags? Is it additional crash beams or what not for the USDM model?

Well, considering there was a 550lb difference in curb weight between the old base lancer and the Evo IX MR, we probably should have seen this coming. The new Lancer GTS weights in at over 3000lbs, so it really shouldnt come as a surprise (especially with the addition of the ACD and SST on the MR), that the weight has, once again, gone up 430lbs and 520+lbs on GSR and MR, respectively (sadly, it could have been worse).
The problem lies in the fact that Mitsu didnt pay enough attention to the base Lancer's dimensions and curb weight. I mean, you can only do so much with what you've got to work with.

Well, looks like we've got release date, weight and power nailed down. Just need options & PRICING!!! And when the MR will actually come here and if they've got the "issues" worked out yet...
Oh, and look at the very bottom of the chart that jackygor posted...in the small type...this information has been available since 8/20/07! Those bastards at

Dude, its not gonna change. The weight gains this time around from base lancer to Evo were actually less than the last time. There is only so much you can do to lose weight when the base weight is over 3000lbs.
Well, for those planning on getting the MR, you can make it 11 Lbs lighter by removing some of the extra insulation they added for your interior comfort...

"...While providing an even deeper-bass exhaust note than the previous model, the 2008 Lancer Evolution is designed to reduce unwanted noises and vibrations. The MR model, in particular, features an additional 11 pounds of sound insulation in the toeboard and under the carpeting."

Dude, while everyone is speculating i have seen a disparity of about 250lbs, wait until the darn thing is released, then nothing will be subject to change, it will, JUST BE.
Look at it from a realistic standpoint: You are adding a Turbo, Intercooler and all associated plumbing, beefier transmission, active ceneter differential, rear differential, driveshaft, active yaw control, larger wheels and tires, etc. All of that stuff weights at least 400+lbs...probably more. 3500lbs for a curb weight seems right about where it should be.
And, as far as "subject to change," that's legal language any company's lawyers include on all documents so if they had a typo or change something down the road they aren't legally obligated to provide something to consumers. In this case, the weight isn't going to change...just like Canexican tried to explain.
The Evo has officially become the Cameron Manheim of the automotive world. It dresses to hide it's weight and then pretends to be confident and nimble. Blah. Can't beat the laws of physics and can't fool me. Looks like a fat pig to me. You'll find me on the STi forums until the Evo can come south of 3400lbs. Those projected curb weights are just too much.

At the end of the day, we either needed an increase in displacement and/or decrease in weight to top the IX. I respect Mitsu for sticking with the WRC 2.0L limit, but it's simply not enough to move the extra heft.
Hold onto your IX's and VIII's. The Evo and STI will be the late 60's Mustang & Camaro of their generation.
