drove the evo x at work

I am a Longshoreman n i work in the import/ export field n i get to drive pretty much every car thats made outside the USA. i drive cars 4 to 5 months before they go on sale or even before the magazines write about them.
Lexus IS-F very impressive but wen u see it up close, its jus wayyy too much, makes the evo look normal. Low end torque is real good.
The New BMW M3, not feeling it as much as the old one but the sound of that exhaust got me hooked especially wen free revving.
In the ship there were about 15 to 20 evo x. since my foreman knows that im into cars he came n got me from the top deck. First thing i dont like is that the exo x blends in alot, u park it beside a camry or an accord its lost. I was about to tell my boss that it was just a GTS until i noticed the intercooler.

Interior is not as high class as everyone thinks but the seats feel the same like my 8, but my lower back felt wayy more comfortable.still plastic everywhere. The interior is quiet, quieter than the 8 or 9., not accord quiet but a corolla quiet.

I didnt get to abuse it since we were jus moving them from deck 3 to deck11 i think, but u can get a first gear pull in the ship(yes its a big ship holds around 8k cars n the decks r long, real long). I use to have a 92 accord coupe with a JDM
h22a swap it ran a low 14sec, the evo x felt like that. A low 14 sec. high 13 sec car. I have a low 11sec. evo8 n i think my expectations were too high for the evo x. Takin sum hard turns in the ship this car handles but i still cant say its better than my 8 which is lowered on tein.

These evo x were going to california i have no idea why they were on a German ship with the bimmers and Benz.

didnt want to write alot, any questions i will answer since i basically gave u the real short version but i was tinkering with that car for about 20 mins before i drove it.
Mitsubishi took alot of the roughness out of this car for Daily driving. I would give this evo x to my fiancee to go do errands with, its that much toned down.
its grown up, n my biggest problem is(not really the speed, the aftermarket will fix that) the Evo x blends in too much. my Evo8 i get looks from everyone from people that dont know what it is to people that give me thumbs up while driving this new evo everyone will look at it as a regular lancer.

AHA, since writing this, i realized what the new evo reminds me of when i drove it. The 04 up Acura TL. The ride an heavy steering felt almost the same its jus that the evo is faster an has AWD. Havent driven the TL Types s yet since its assembles in the US but thats what the Evo x feels like.

No pics on my camera phone not worth it to loose my job.

Thanks for the write up. It is one more reason to wait it out for possible changes in 09 and beyond.

Were they staying on the ship to go through the Panama canal or offloaded in NJ onto car carriers ? If stayed on the ship, when did it or when will it leave for CAL ?

If this is true, then

My ex-GF had a TL and let me tell you, the steering was not awe-inspiring at all.

Would that ship fit through the Panama Canal, If not maybe they were to be off loaded in Maryland.

it jus didnt feel like my evo8. but it jus reminds me of driving a Acura TL.

I do believe that this car will (MOSTLY)sell to the likes of people who will NEVER EVER take their cars to the track. It will definetly persuade someone that was thinking of buying an Acura TL or a Audi A4 2.0T even STi owners,( the pics of the STI makes it looks uglier than it really is).

BMW 335i owners i think not. The price might make them buy n evo instead but thats it.

if u know anything about RO-RO ships its pretty much the same as the others. this one is jus a newer version that has all the higher decks n fits a lil more cars. I have no idea if its going through the canal.

Actually, if it were to be offloaded, it would of been discharged here, covered n put on a truck n driven cross country.

Ive seen a prototype toyota that has done that already. Ship came at 1am car got wrapped up an put on a trailer by 1:45am, i told by boy that i think it was the new Supra but that was last year.

I think who ever was looking at a tl surly will not look at a mitsu evo. Not even in the same class by a long shot. Most people don't even know what an evo is and think it's a plain old mitsu. Trust me

His statement on the steering is directly contrary to every review that has been written.

I wish new cars had a break-in period rev limiter. If I get an X, I promised myself I would only take delivery of one I knew never to have been driven, and the RPMs had not exceeded the recommended rev limit for the recommended number of miles, i.e. rolled off the trailer directly to the parking lot. No test drives by anxious salespeople or anything like that...but it looks like the new ones may very well have a "good 1st gear pull" on them before they even hit the stealerships...or even dry land in the USA...

You will never get a car that's never been driven as they have to get them to you from the factory some how however I know where you're coming from. Having worked next to a yard where they stored stock of new cars (Hyundai's I think) for the dealerships before they were sold I can say that the guys who loaded them on and off the trucks were none too kind to them. Frequently we would hear tyre squealing and general over-revving of engines. Still, I suppose unless it's sustained abuse I think the impact over the life of the car would be negligible. Besides, I will sell my car before the warranty expires so it's no big deal.
