Edmunds.com - New Mitsu Ralliart Info
I read in a Japanese magazine today that they are calling it the Ralliart VR-4. Im not sure if the VR-4 moniker will stay for the us spec but it also said it will be awd and come with 240 ps. So a little over 240 hp. No price speculation though.
You can always upgrade the brakes/tires/body parts to CF/ etc.
Plus u will pay less than an EVO and pay less for insurance.
Sounds like a great option. A few bolt ons and u can bump it up to almost 300HP =)

*sigh* I love the internets.
I owned a VW GLI with the DSG. Best "automatic" style transmission I've ever driven. I personally applaud Mitsubishi for putting one in the EVO/Ralliart. It's about time this segment got some supercar technology.
Besides, the paddle shifters are more authentic Rally style than rowboating
And I would bet money that the SST is much better than VAG's DSG in every way. For instance, the DSG craps out it's internals at anything more than 250hp. Somehow I bet the SST won't do that

This is the same reason the new E90/1/2 M3 is getting a 400+hp V8 instead of a hypertuned V6, because the 335i (with a turbo back and a tune) would be competition. Mitsubishi doesn't want people saving $10k on buying a Ralliart just to have it smoke Evos at the track and drag strips.

I'm pretty sure it would have more to do with a different turbo on the thing than internals. Mitsubishi is known to do this between models. Back in the day, when I found out my Auto talon had a smaller turbo than a Manual, I was p'oed.
Anyways, I don't see the point in changing the internals when the engine is still producing 240hp. I don't think the internal upgrades on the EVO is so drastic from the NA 4B11 that it would make any sense to reduce the reliability of the motor by removing them and keeping it turbocharged. It would just be more cost effective to slap on a smaller turbo and give it a more conservative ECU tune. Don't forget that the chasis and AWD system is probably where most of the cost is going to be and by offering a less sophisticated AWD system, the car could probably be priced lower.
Plus who says mitsu doesn't want people saving $10k on a Ralliart and have it smoke EVOs at the track and drag strips. The EVO is supposed to be the Luxury model anyways. Obviously this one is the "tuner ready" model.

Somehow I doubt that the difference will be a simple ECU map. Even though both the WRX and the STI get the EJ25, a simple map on a WRX does not a STI make. The STI gets different internals and I'd bet that the EVO vs. the Ralliart will be the same.

Ohh and a tune, with an ecu flash, and exhaust, on the 335i will smoke the M3. Please man, for the sake of everyone stop posting stuff that just doesnt need to be posted. I am not trying to argue with you, but it needs to stop.
Ohh and your comparing this situation, to the wrx vs sti deal. The sti would obvously have different internals, its a bigger motor!!!!!!!
Man, what is wrong with you. How the hell do you know what mitsu wants, same with BMW. I have read alot of your posts, and they really make no sense at all. The fact is that people would buy the evo, due to it being more refined, and nicer. I dont get poeople. People b*tch about how crappy the interior is, the econo box styling on the outside, boy racer wing. Then Mitsu changes all that and now everyone is upset that the car is all soft.

I am more than sure Mitsubishi will somehow deteriorate Ralliarts performance compared to Evo X and it's potential for mods, otherwise what would be the point of Evo X if in fact the new Ralliart priced at $26K would offer similar performance to Evo X with a $2K worth of mods. Mitsubishis management may not be the brightest in the world but I don't think they would be this stupid as to spend so much R&D dollars on Evo X and then let it be cannibalized by Ralliart. Whats would be the point of spending so much money on developing new technologies such as S-AWC (which probably won't be in a Ralliart anyway due to it's price).
