Evo X Review: "The Inevitable Evolution"
so pretty much if you can drive an 8 or 9 properly, you wont have problems winning. that's what i got out of the article, right? ayc is great an all, but us evo's have been known to be fast without it. cough cough, ams.
It is just plain "not right" that a new gen Evo does not have higher straight line performance than the out going model. I like the looks, appreciate the stiffer body the better interior materials and the AYC and can even live with another 100 to 200 lbs weight but they should have gone to a powerplant that made at least 350 hp.

Having just spent a couple days in a GSR X over a variety of driving conditions, I can say it is absolutely an Evo. A new model evo, but an evo just the same as the VII was an evo when it came out. That doesnt mean you have to like it. I personally didnt much like the VIII when it first came out. But to say its not an evolution, especially without driving it, would be IMO a misunderstanding of what an evo is. This is the first all new model for us, but in Japan they have had to deal with entirely new evo platforms 3 times, and I am sure everytime, people complained its just not the same. Of course its not the same, but that doesnt mean its not fitting to be called an Evo
True, if you are going to build an all out race car, AYC, and for the matter, the ACD are not at all important. Most japanese race cars eliminate these two items. However, how many of you are building full out race cars, and of those that are not, how many or even going to be seriously track modded. The reality is that the AYC does wonders for all but the most serious track cars. And in real world situations is a very nice feature. The real world is not as predictable as a track, and most owners are not seasoned racers.
I've put almost 800 road miles on a X we are using for adjustable coilover suspension upgrades The Stock suspension for ROAD driving (325miles) is MUCH better than any previous Evo I have driven, the closest was a set of KW street shocks with 5kg and 6kg springs...set full soft on the compression and slow on the rebound. That said I have lowered the X 50mm in the front and 35mm in the rear while maintaining stock travel and the customer wants a track car so we went with the heaviest spring rate the prototype KW V3 street shocks can handle at 8kg front and 9kg rear. I have driven the X for 440 miles with the KW's and stiff springs and it rides better than any CT9A or CP9A chassis Evo's..... and just as nice as the stocker (and I lost the NASTY wheel gap too!HA) The X's stiffer unibody and 2" wider track with room in the fenderwells for about an extra inch of track all mean this chassis can be superior at the track too. Give us chassis guys a bit of time to get the SAYC down and I think these new X's will be faster HP to HP than the older evos. (but making power is someone else's problem) As always ymmv

I was just reiterating what I've heard from others who have driven the X's.
To some people the X could be considered a true Evo, to others maybe not so much.

I know it hurts that you no longer have the best Evo. Get over it, or go buy an X and be done with it!
