Evo X Finally Out In Vancouver, Canada!
ok lets turn this around so people seem to understand from the business side why the currency is higher. lets pretend you own Mitsubishi.
A) you dont want to be adjusting your currency all the time up and down, historically for the past 20 or 30 years the US currency has been higher then the Canadian, so just because it goes above once for a few months, why would you rest all your prices? we saw the currency run 15 cents within like a 2 month period it was crazy, then it ran back down 10 cents. its inpossible to predict. the only way to do it is to base it on averages. The longer the currency stays even, the more the price will become even. but it will take time.
B) your primary market is the USA, most of your cars are shipped to the USA, it would not be wise to create a situation where you have Americans going north of a boarder to aquire cars. The dealers wouldnt stand for it, and you would be upsetting the balance of your primary market.
C) Shipping, and supporting this secondary market has additional overhead vs. an entrenched more harmonized American primary market. Factories are located in the US (for those cars not made in Japan) taxes are easier to deal with etc...
So when people complain about the price its simple, if you can get the car cheaper, take a drive and buy one. lol that is unless there is a stupid regulation that stops you from doing it, like a rear bumper lol, in that case you have to lobby your government.
THe problem is, Canadian Dealer Associations do not want the trade barriers to come down, they of course do not want you to go to the states to by your car because then it undermines their price. They lobby the government as well, and generally leads to a very slow pace of change. Its no different then the Canadian Cell phone companies. its a 3 way monopoly, if someone stands out they all work together to minimize the threat, and things go back to being the same.
Remember what happend when fido attempted to bring to the wonderful Canadian people Free unlimited talk time 24/7 for 50 dollars. Remember that you were allowed to even change the number to your house phone, wow, thats ground breaking lol Well, like a Eagle swooping down from 10,000 that company was taken out, Rogers completed the merger in record time, there were no hearings, by the regulatory body that over sees this sector. lol Fido was effectivly gone as an independant provider.
And that free talk time plan disapeared. Only now after 3 years of consoltation and lobbying for delays by the sector did we finally get the ability to keep our cellphone number? when we switch provider, the excuse by the big companies is, that it just cant be done, it will take alot of resources.
Anyways I am taking this way off topic but you get the picture. you need to lobby and or elect the proper members of government to get real change.
Thats the key to everything.

It's likely that Mitsubishi will instruct their American dealers not to sell to Canadians. Last year when the currency rose above the US $, you had a flood of people going to the U.S. to buy cars. Companies like Toyota instructed the U.S. dealers not to sell to Canadians or face stiff penalties.
They are "protecting" their domestic dealers which basically means allowing them the freedom to keep gouging their customers 10g's on many vehicles. Even when the Canadian dollar was low, cars were always cheaper in the U.S. and just looking at ebay motors prices made me salivate often. Are American prices lower because of volume? Isn't it true that America has the largest auto market in the world? The most car buyers/owners in the world? Discount prices come to those who buy in volume, right?

As for Mitsubishi not selling to Canadians, they are entitled to do so, however, there are currently a couple pending lawsuits on both sides of the border addressing this issue. This is a form of discrimination (discrimination based on country of origin), and is therefore illegal. If Mitsubishi were to choose this course of action, it could potentially cost them millions in lawsuits.
As I said before, you are right for the most part on what you said, and the general idea was conveyed.
I was listening to the news and the said that this year 100 000 cars have been imported from the US only in Quebec thats 50% more than last year. THats a lot of car!!!
For the ugly rear bumper I'm sure many people will just swap it for the us spec one. They have to sell it with this bumper but that don't mean you have to keep it

Here are the pics of the Canadian Evo X:
This is a Canadian Evo X GSR model. Visually, for the most part looks the same as the US model. Lancer GTS spoiler is standard.

Front wheel and brakes. Brembos same as US model.

Rear wheel and brakes.

Tires also the same as the US model (IIRC).

And now, finally, close ups of the rear bumper piece that everyone has been talking about:



Looking at this piece, it does seem to be added onto the bumper. It definitely is not a single piece with the entire bumper/diffuser. My guess is that it's just a plastic piece that's been added onto the US model bumper. The question is how is it mounted and what's underneath. Is it just body cladding and mounted with double sided tape? Or is it actually bolted on, which means there would be screwholes on the bumper that would need to be covered up once the piece is removed.
For me, I will be removing that piece immediately once I get the car. It just looks nasty! I will post up the removal process if anyone is interested.

Yea, the pics are of the Evo that's at New Type in Richmond.
Initially, New Type Mitsubishi had the car priced at MSRP, CA$41,495. But I think after they heard that the other Vancouver area dealers were selling higher than MSRP, they raised the price to CA$44,478. Destination and handling charges were CA$1245. So the total was CA$45,993.
