Are the front fender vents functional?

Weird I can't find a thread on this yet. So, are the front fender vents functional? I would never imagine anything on an Evo to be fake and tacked on like a Mustang hood scoop (puke) but after a brief inspection, I couldn't find where the air for the vent would come from if it is functional...please tell me didn't look to Pontiac or Ford for inspiration for tacky non-functional vents...

It was posted in one of the articles...I think one of the Mitsu press releases. The fender vents do not take air in, but apparently are supposed help exhaust the hot air from behind the engine bay (where the turbo is)...

However the center vent does direct air across the turbo for cooling. Cats also like to sleep in this area.

if your talking about the ones one the side behind the wheels then yes, but i forgot exactly what there for. it was either for air the the wheel well to escape, or hot air in the engine bay to escape.

if not then at least i can tell you all vents on the x are functional.

i read somewhere that the it was some type of aero dynamic affect so the air doesnt get caught up in the wheel well.

this a good explanation for airdams or aerodynamics:

The vents are for hot air to escape the engine bay, there are "spoliers" in front portion of the wheel wells to keep air from the wheel wells.

I was right - I found that article.

The engine hood air outlet and fender vents effectively exhaust heat from the engine compartment. Together with the engine hood air scoop that supplies cooling air to the turbocharger these elements give vivid accent to Evolution X's exterior looks.

NICE FIND! that's why i couldn't find the inlet for the fender vent. it's in the engine compartment somewhere and i was looking in the wrong place! i'm glad they didn't stray from the evo heritage of only putting functional vents on it. it's not a rustang after all...

I posted the same question as you did a while back... I was hoping it wasn't the case. It's not!

Well it wasn't the same question...I didn't mean to say that, but I had the same fears as you did Machron. It would really **** me off if an Evo had something that was purely for form over function. Mustang exterior design is rediculous in that area.
