Evo X official paint issues/problems thread {merge}
Mitsu re-painted most of my 2003 Black Galant under warranty. Problem is, whenever you repaint a car, it's never the same as factory original. There's rough edges all around where the tape lines were.
1034 miles, just washed it again today and checked it again... Sure, there is some obvious chipping going on, mostly at the rear of the side skirts, but honestly I don't give a damn, **** like this is going to happen, especially with the quality of the roads in the state I live in...
Honestly, it seems to me that paint doesn't start getting really good until you get into the high $40's and up... hell the first car I ever owned that didn't have issues like this was my '07 vette, which required a certain type of paint for the flexible fiberglass panels, and... $54k
It just gets old pretty fast hearing these "OMG, my paint has a chip in it, I can't believe this, mitsu is horrible, horrible, this is the worst car I have ever owned, they better do something about this...I am never buying a mitsu again," and "I have a shift knob, do you think they are going to void my warranty when I come in for paint chips?"
Sorry, just reading a lot of these kinds of posts lately, bums me out... just go and have fun with the damn thing, thats what its for!

Could always go this route: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=311450

Sorry to hear Mits is still using the candy coating from M&Ms as paint.

My wife's $21,000 Honda has infinitely better paint than this car. The amount of chips I have in two months/5k on this car is more than I had in my Evo VIII in three years and 55,000 miles of ownership.
If we take this up the tailpipe and just stick our heads in the sand, how will the quality control get any better?
when i saw this thread i went out to check my car(500Miles),and it has 4 or 5 chipped paint , the thing is I don;t like splash guard,don't look right to me,hopefully there will be a other solution. Did mitsubishi knows about this?

It does suck to have paint chips indeed, however you will not stop this process, like someone stated prior just drive the darn thing! It has nothing to do with Mitsu, fender flares/rocker panels are prone to chipping, if you observe ANY car (no matter what make) you'll find chips!
Since the primer Mitsu use's is white, maybe wicked white would have been a better choice? But once again I feel for you, I was going through the same thing and after thousands of dollars and 3 body shops later, the paint is still chipping where the body work was done (Mitsu's not to blame now)! Life of a car plain and simple...
P.S. If you want to see a sad situation I'll upload pictures of my Dad's 04 f-150, the clear is slowly dissipating off the hood!
