Very disappointed. I absolutely loved my STi's tranny/clutch and knew the Evo's wasn't as good, but no idea it was this bad. I test drove 2 different X's just to rule out the car itself. I don't know what to do - I'm stuck. Unbelievable on a darn near $40K car.
I have mine X for a week and I already did 700+ miles.
The shifting could have been better I agree but it is not as bad as you describe.
I will say the worse is the 6th gear missing. Not for road racing but for cruising on the interstate. IMO for normal drving on highway the engine rev too high.

That is funny! But be careful, the latest results from the JDM STI (2.0L version) and JDM EVO X are that the X was slower around the Tsukuba race track in japan...
I found this bit of info also while searching one day.
* EVO / STI
* 2007- 1:06:46 / 1:05:95
* 2006- 1:05:07 / 1:04:72
* 2005- 1:04.88 / 1:04:17
* 2003- 1:05:30 / 1:04:69
* 2001- 1:05:17 / 1:06:56
* 1998- 1:04:69 / 1:06:73
* 1996- 1:07:00 / 1:05:92
* 1994- 1:06:52 / 1:06:26
* 1992- 1:10:90 / 1:07:99
The 2007 results are the 08 STI and EVO X just to clarify.

Glad to hear, hopefully this will be fixed after the first dealer service.

+1 - I found myself trying to shift into 6th on the highway because the engine is working so hard at 75/80. Good grief. I can't image any sort of lengthy drive. I drive to Denver from Colo. Sprgs. on a semi-reuar basis and that would annoy the heck out of me. Also, with any type of aftermarket exhaust, if it has any drone to it whatsoever, that gonna be a pisser in this car.

the up-side is when you are cruising in top-gear and push the gas, the car ACTUALLY accelerates lol.

Dono't know know what you're talking about... my STi would $hit n get in 6th at 75/80... never needed to downshift to pass, never needed to downshift for hills. I think it's that .5L extra disp. I'm not dumping on the Evo, I'm just comparing it to what I've owned. The X's handling made my STi look silly - and I did a lot of suspensuion work to the STi, not to mention a tire-chewing aggressive alignment. The X is far better out of the box. Each cars has it's strengths. Just depends which strengths are important to who. I simply cannot see myself in that ugly new '08 hatchback. It's awful.

Sweeeet Review learning more things everyday!! how come we have slower times at Tsukuba compared to the STI well with the latest version!?! (Stock form) Modified i think we beat subarus "times" Ct230R hits 53sec. very impressive while sti 's stuggle to get into the 55sec mark still a Impressive time but not up to par within the EVO but yet they beat the EVO in stock form. im i making sense to anyone?!!?

I agree, out of the box, the X wins in many categories. Then after some tuning, it will be a trade off of low end grunt to top end power.

Yes, and no. The gear ratios in Japan are tuned to the higher reving motor, so given the same output they perform 0-60 times pretty similar.

A little. Its not the best example (the one i made) as its not the exact car, but they are pretty close. If i could read japanese i could probably find the 0-60 time for the JDM STI and EVO, then compare this to the USDM cars. Some mags show the EVO faster, some the STI. Then Mitsu said they retuned them or something. Who knows, but for sure our X makes alot more power than the STI, even though they are both rated at similar power levels.

We just got done last night with some stage one ECU tuning, and things are looking good! This new turbo can hold 23psi for long time!

the ribs are expansion joints for the aluminum roof in the sun, not really a strengthener, there is a tech doc on it from mitsu somewhere

Great content, fun and informative read.

I think you guys have always made great stuff, but perhaps you didn't "market" it quite as aggressively as other vendors on Evom. That's actually a compliment and I vastly prefer your current approach!

Good luck and I will look out for your products in the future for my old a$$ 03' 8 (you'll never get me out of it!). I think the first mod ever for me was your shorty antenae.

You are missing out on the Perrin Exhaust imho. I dont think they make the same one they had when I got it though. Man, that exhaust sounded killer!

Thanks!
Yup, we were just not agressive enough, but hopefully the next few things we do will change people minds. Our car is making an extra 50HP and 40ft-lbs of TQ, at 23psi, with no bolt on parts........ Yes its way faster!

not mention they have hollow top pistons...and the changed the valve angle in the head ..also sodium filled exhaust valves,bigger exhaust port volume, 2 intake temp sensors,2 boost control solinoids, one for low speed boost and one for high speed boost,straighter layout of all intake piping, isometric long port intake manifoldresin impeller waterpump,super-fine atomized injectors, and straighter injection shot to valve pocket,both intake and exhaust cams are mivec controlled,4 bolt main block,full floating piston pin,smaller air flow meter hot wire design,after-run fan system for cooling,ecm can monitor timing chain stretch,2 cam postion sensors for chain stretch for checking cam phase angle,only one oil control valve for both camshafts,oil pump module with balancer shaft built in and thats just the engine...the rest of the car is awsome
