Advice for the brother

Hi im a happy evo IX owner with some questions. Well my brother has had pretty fast cars in the past including a viper, c6 cammed corvette, E55 with nitrous and now he has an methed audi rs6. Well the money isnt as good as before so he now wants to get an evo X mr. But im sure he is planning on getting @ least on the 11s with it. He also wants it to reach 500 whp which in the future it is definetely possible with maybe cams or 50 trim since theres a company already making 437whp with boltons and c16. My argument to him is that all of those aspirations are to risky with that new dsg transmission and he comes back to me with the argument that this transmission is from audi and that it will not fail so easily. What do you guys think, or would do in his position buy the mr or what? What should i say to him to help him with this? After all Ill be whipping his car a lot in the summers and i dont want it to be at the shop all the time with tranny problems

Oh and how different are the Xs mr differencials compared to the IXs mr?

We'll I guess if he's so sure then let him do it....hahha. I'm sure somebody, maybe even Sheptrans will come up with a solution if there are weaknesses.

I did think about that, that maybe shep would find a way to make them stronger if needed. But why take a risk with a new transmission if the manual is proven to work. Also wouldnt it make him slower in the 1/4 since he has to shift once more to 5th?

I think it'll be the same story as the IX MR. If he wants heavily mod it then get ready to beef that bad boy up, not that the 5speed won't have it's on problems but it'll definately be more expensive.

The MR SST is not made by Audi. The VW DSG/Audi S-tronic was originally developed by BorgWarner for VWAG. The Mitsubishi, Nissan and BMW(coming) dual-clutch transmissions were all modeled after the DSG.

We will really have to wait for people to start breaking SST's, before we really know what its limitations are.

The only people in the states that have gotten their hands on an MR (with the tc-sst) and been able to mod it so far is AMS. So no, the big valley 11.9 evo is not the "dsg" one.

I just dont see how with the size and complexity of the MR tranny it could be very strong at all.

Tell him to slow down on buying/modding cars and save some of that money.

Why not avoid the hassle and buy a GSR in the first place?
