Took the X to the strip

So last night I was invited by a friend of mine to come out to the strip. He has a 02 WRX and wanted to lay to rest some arguments, in a controlled non-police binding enviroment. I was the only X there, and the only Evo as a matter of fact. There were about 4 WRX (incl. my buddy). One was some kinda sick nasty one, had to be at least like 600awhp. He was doing awd burnouts in staging area like it was a game. So finally after about 20 minutes in staging I got up there for my first run. I wasn't real concerned with launching it right off the bat, seeing as I haven't launched it yet. Light goes green and I do a pretty quick takeoff. Problem: Didn't think to turn trac-control off. Booooo. She comes out of the hole like a rocket for 10 feet, then the tach drops to 1k blinking "traction!". Now furious at myself for not noticing that small problem beforehand I start hammering some gears. I still managed a 10.02@75mph with a severely messed up semi-launch and shifts around 6.8k. I got back in line to run it again, run 2. This time I had TC off, but again wasn't concerned with launching it. I got fixated with watching the tree and didn't pay attention to my footwork, I tried to "launch" around 4k, I think, and it was total bog again. This time even worse, but I was pissed off and ran each gear to 7.5k for shifting, and 3rd gear ran right at 7.5 as I hit the stripe in the 8th. 10.4@77mph. I know, weak times, but this is my first AWD car. I'm used to doing RWD launches where what I did works out great. I got some learning to do on AWD-launches then we'll be in the low 9's. 2-step time I reckon. I was amazed at how many folks wanted to talk about the Evo. In staging I had everything from young kids to older farm hands wanting to talk with me about it. A guy on a crotch-rocket was all about it. Funny thing, one of the younger guys was like "be careful with that gas pedal man, I've heard some bad things about it. Breaking and all". Haha, we're mainstream! Just thought I'd share my experiences. Anyone else dragged a STOCK X yet?

Pissed or happy you should be always be hitting 7.5k or even fuel cut.

Launching the evo is definately tricky try using the 5k two step and let it out slow until you start to roll a little and then slip it out. (then say hello exedy twin after a couple weekends at the strip lol j/p)

Yea, I wasn't really feeling inflicting too awful much clutch carnage last night tho. Next time will be a different story.

Ya thoes are pretty slow for the 8th. But like you said your new to your AWD. Here is what i did with my first time with an AWD car and first time at the track with it. I hit a
60ft 1.9
330ft 5.6348
1/8 8.6969
1/8 mph 81.06
1/4 13.5056 (so close to a 13.4 lol dang)
1/4 mph 102.95

So you should be mid 8s in the 1/8mile. Here is my thread with time slips of my run. And this was 3600 ft above sea level.

P.S. the factory 2 step is the key. Dont be scared to use that 2 step, its the key.

Not too bad though.......I've seen worse traps at the track in the past with modded cars. **** happens, sometimes driver mod or mechanical failure = ftl

I was only half-assing it anyways. Wasn't trying to be labeled as the first X to make a lot of noise and sit still on the strip with something broke. I'll be 2-stepping next time tho. Then we'll see.

Those would probably be high 14 second passes on a 1/4. My stock X went 8.5 @ 81 in the 1/8th. You'll get used to it, but use the factory launch control. You should be able to get in the mid 1.8s on your 60s pretty easily.

I was wondering how you had a high trap speed but a slower time then me, then i saw you had the intake, test pipe, and exhaust. I think if you get that 60 ft down you will be getting mid to low 8s in the 1/8.

I have my down pipe, test pipe, cat back, intake, and uicp on the way. Cant wait to see what i can do in the 1/4 mile with all of that on the car. Plus i have my lowering spring sitting in my house just looking at me
