Shorty Antenna for the X

Sorry, I've searched but nothing is specific with this on the X.

I wanted to know if there's a shorty antenna out there that will sit flush with the base. I know most aftermarket antennas will have a gap between the bottom of the antenna and the base. Other than the JDM one, which if anyone know where I can get one please PM me, is there anything else that will fit nice and flush? I guess I can always just cut the think part of the stock one...

Thanks all!

That's what I did. I couldn't find any of the shorty antennas that sat flush, and to my eye the big gap looks worse than the stock long antenna, so I don't understand the point of the aftermarket shorties.

I cut the stock one at the thin part, and then smoothed the end out and put a drop of black paint on the exposed white material. It took less than 5 minutes and looks great.

Do you mind taking some close up pictures? I always wonder how that looks once it's actually done.

Thanks!

Here are a couple pics where you can see it on the car a bit, and some quick close-up shots of it on the recently rained-on car in the garage:

Thanks JWA! How's your radio reception after cutting the thin part off?

The problem is that all of the aftermarket ones have a flat base that doesn't extend down over the threaded area, so there's a half inch gap there and it looks unfinished.

No problem. I haven't tried AM, as I never listen to it, but FM reception is great. I mainly listen to Sirius anyways, but tested it out and I get a clear signal from all of the stations in my area - and those are all in Milwaukee which is around 25 miles away.

Perrin's antenna current offerings leaves a gap on the Evo X antenna leaving the thread exposed. I wasn't too happy with the fitment. Still waiting for someone to come out with one that fits better.

I've got the Agency Power antenna, and while it looks cool, the fitment is not great.

You could probably make a little sleeve out of a thick black plastic washer without too much trouble. I doubt it would match exactly, but it'd look better than that gap if it bothers you.
