Gas pedals and hood latches...two things that should NEVER break on any car.

rant.

I may just break mine on purpose before my warranty expires just to get it fixed...assuming it won't break naturally by then

Spray some lubercating grease on the latch and the moving componets. It helps out alot.

Anyone with a stiff hood latch should bring their X in to the dealer. Product engineering WAS asking all dealers to submit what they find to improve the parts. From the ones I saw, the cable is binding and has nothing to do with the latch or handle.

Mine broke again. Can't open the hood even after the tech bulletin had the entire cable routing and parts replaced a few months ago. Even after the repair, the hood was very hard to open by pulling on the handle. The handle is still intact, but the metal bracket that holds the handle is bent 45 degrees (I took off the plastic panel) Can't even pull the cable with pliers to open the hood. That is twice in 6000 miles and only a few dozen openings. Handle should pull front to back rather (verticle) than sideways pull for leverage.

i thought i was going to break mine this weekend. It was VERY cold out and i feel like the line was almost frozen. The i unfortunatly just pulled the lever hard and it finally let go and the hood open. I was nervous as well though.

If it is hard to pull, dont break it, just ask someone to push the hood down a bit, and then pull the latch, it will open quick.... do that untill u go to the dealer

Mine did the same thing, I had it two days and took it back to the dealer, they had to order a new cable and took them around 2 hours to do it. They said the stock cable is too long and can break. Now it works like a champ.

pushed down on the hood while someone pulled the cable, and it opened Once you pull on the cable by yourself and it does not open, if you push on the hood, you hear a "click" which should be the latch engaging the hood loop. Even doing this will not open the hood when you pull the cable again by yourself. I repeated this six times and it would not open. You must have someone press down on the hood like you are going to dent it while the cable is pulled at the same time and it worked another six times in a row. The cable looks fine and once the hood is opened and you pull the cable, all looks good and functions fine. There must be something wrong with the latch mechanism. Going to the dealer tomorrow.

Mine is a pain in the @$$ to open and I know it will eventually snap. I will talk to the dealer about it next time I'm there.

Just an FYI if you have someone gently push down on the hood when pulling the lever it makes it open easier . Not that popping the hood should be a 2 person job, but it may buy you time till you can get it fixed

I had the same problem. It got harder and harder to pull open. I had to have someone push down on the hood to get it open so I took it to Mitsubishi and they replaced it under warranty.
