Wot

I'm coming from an SRT4 (turbo neon) and I've been noticing that the X doesn't really respond well to WOT. It seems to me that i almost get partial throttle boost or I boost just as hard at partial throttle than I would at WOT (i know that isn't quite PTB either). when i go wide open it seems that i am putting too great a load on the motor. do i just need a tune? or is this typical with the X? (e.g., no turbo whine and poor responsiveness to WOT).

You need a tune, you'll gain a bunch of horses and it'll fix your problem.

i just need to suck it up and do a buschur mail in tune. pretty embarrassing when my evo can get spanked easily and sounds like it is drowning in fuel under firm acceleration.

Two things:

Have you gotten the dealer reflashes? Made a huge difference in throttle response for me

Have you tried with ASC completely off. I ran yesterday with ASC completely off (hold the button for 4-5 seconds until the dash lights up with an exclaimation point) and the car FELT much faster (pissed off even!).

i am not eligible for the reflashes i was told. so i will just get an aftermarket flash. i want to be leaned out too big time and the factory reflash doesn't take care of that.

asc off or sawd off? what you're describing is sawd off. i will try that but am doubtful that will make a difference other than over/understeering into a guard rail.

How can you not be eligible for the flashes?

I think you have a crappy dealer (big surprise huh?)

If your dealer tells you that you are not eligible for the reflash, try another dealer. I simply asked if I could get the most up-to-date ECU flash and they were like, "sure". Took 10 minutes tops.

i believe it is the first 49000 or so made that get the reflash, right? and yes it isn't shocking to learn that i have a crappy dealer.

The car just needs a tune, that's all. Mitsu has the factory map tuned EXTREMELY conservatively and the factory reflash helps a good bit. It sucks that your dealer isn't letting you get it, but it doesn't really matter. The X picks up like 50-60 hp just from an ecutek tune and turns the car into a real monster. That's a much bigger gain than most cars get from the same mod. Although much of these little issues will be mostly resolved for the 2009 models, consider the 2008 X to be a diamond in the rough. It's a first year car, don't worry about it too much. A tune fixes 90 % of what is wrong with the car. Now if they can just get that tranny smoothed out a bit...

they might not have an evo trained/certified mechanic so they don't want to so anything wrong. Are there no non-suckass dealers in the area you could go to?

I know in Cali that people drive the hour or so to go to South Coast since they have better service there.
