First Thoughts

I picked up an 08 GSR (Phantom Black Pearl)from southcoast mitsu yesterday (Thanks Sam & Mark!)and now that I'm logging on to post it says that I last visited Jan 17, 2006 (so I've been lurking for quite some time)..

I've owned some nice vehicles over the past 4 years, 07 M5, 03 911 Cab4, 04 S600, 04 745i, an 02 C5 vette conv..... to name a few..... my current daily drivers 05/06 Dodge Ram SRT-10's <the 06 will be gone soon>

Anyway, I've only had the vehicle 12 hours but I can say (save the M5 & the 05 RAM), I've NEVER been happier with a vehicle purchase (and that's not to say I'm less happy with the evo over the other 2, it's just different)... Does the car have the raw power of the Ram?, no(but it's not exactly stock either), Does it have the power and comfort of the M5?, no(but that's a $97,000 luxury sedan), but what it does have is lots and lots.... and lots of fun factor... plenty of power, lots of handling capability and just very easy to drive...

The only dislikes I could find:
1: Push Button Start <I mean seriously, why do I need to still turn something that I don't need to put a key in >
2: 6'th Gear <ok, if to do nothing but save gas mileage it should've had a 6'th gear it could've been a 17-26 car>
3: the tranny is a bit clunky and needs a shorter throw...
4: the wing, the car has the aero kit and although Dodge proved that wings do something with the superbird back in (1968?)... come on, besides it being obtrusive it just looks rice to me (and yes I know my truck has a wing on it , much to my dismay )
5: blue tooth should've been an option, I was told that I could get the factory blue tooth for ~600, ok, that's reasonable,
6: sunroof: yeah before you start telling me about rigidity and blah blah it should be an option... sure the Z06 doesn't have them... the M6 doesn't have them (due to the carbon fiber).. but come on
7: boost gauge: the heck? where's the boost gauge?? LOL

you should see my complaint list on the truck (buhahaha... no traction is near the top )

I know that seems like a lot of complaints off the bat, but I really am excited about the car... I'll have pics of the car once I get the new wheels on.... I'm thinking right of the bat I do coil overs and 305's

Yeah, I've read that the new X GSR has a very high rating in the "fun factor." I wish I could buy a X GSR along-side my IX MR so I could have the best of both worlds....But I'm gonna have to wait until I start making the "BIG Bucks" in the future of my life.

I like the base version X GSR better than the MR. I'm in love with driving stick shift.

Check out works for a short shift (I love mine to death). Ditch the wing if its a DD-they look meaner w/o it anyways.
Nice buy.
You have WAY too much $$$ to be on here.

1: I looked at the MR.. the real problem is the transmission limitation. I had SMG in the M and liked it, that's not the issue, the issue is what are it's capabilities?? I've read 350?? even it's it's 400 or 450, it's an expensive transmission, do I really want to be messing with it??, I like mods so the MR has it's limitations there I believe
2: the works short shift? (I'll look into it for SURE, thanks)
3: the wing... is there a smaller foil replacement kit I can buy?? i'lll start lookin for that... I hate the wing on the truck as well
4: as for the money comment... money shmoney, I like toys like the rest of you... you can see in the pic I've got a few atv's, motorcycles..and that's a 77 land cruiser in the garage... I think the Evo, is one of the best kept secrets around..

Thanks for the welcome guys

I'm guessing you got the larger spoiler that comes with the SSS package, right? I'm sure one of the guys with the smaller wings would trade you. To me when I think of Evo's I think of the performance and a big wing! It just goes with the car. And nothing that comes from the factory is rice.

yeah I was thinking it was part of the Aero package <shrug> but I dunno, yeah it seems kinda overkill... maybe it'll grow on me, I'm not used to looking in my rearview and seeing a big blind spot across the whole back window... I've never owned a Japanese (car), so it's all sorta riceish to me.... but I see your point...

I see you're from Pittsburgh... I grew up in Butler (yea yea, laugh it up)

I added the BT since it was a deal breaker for me. Actually the dealer added it.

The parts are around $450 and the install is a couple hours (at least) and involves cutting your steering wheel plastic surround or buying an MR wheel. The ACD button moves to the console and you lose the little coin cubby.

Well worth it though!

The X has an Al roof to lower the COG so adding a big heavy glass roof would have done just the opposite... but there's nothing better to get the "emissions" out of the car than the sunroof cracked just a bit
