8.4.08 X vs. STi vs. 135
I liked this comment towards the bottom from a reader...
"Fun read. I bought the STi for a better daily driver. If I could just live on the track all day, maybe a tough choice. 99% of my driving is in the "urban assault" mode and that is where the STi shines bright. The EVO has an inflated price, but fun on the track. I'll stick with my Subie."
Apparently, he missed the part about how the Subie just wasn't fun to drive.

The car to me is just a machine, but it's really the people that drive them which completes the picture for me and a lot of those smug mother f*ckers need to learn something or chill out.
These comparos aren't really saying anything new. A heavier underpowered car is faster around a track. We get it. One understeers like a pig, the other doesn't, STOCK. But once the tuning begins, it all goes out the window. These cars are made to MODIFY...and race. In most cases, either platform is better than the driver behind the wheel.

In general, on Subaru forums, when someone asks "Evo or Sti?" everyone says "get the Evo if you like unreliable cars that have pedals fall off!"
I don't see that much here...Evo members tend to, "test drive both, get what YOU like more."
Well anyway, I'm not being biased, I love both CARS equally and can't wait 'til I have an STi in my driveway, but it's more than obvious the STi owners have some insecurity issues.

Sometimes, I wish it weren't true that Subaru guys have such smug-ness. It really does present itself at local meets and on public roads. It's really not the car that turns me off it's the people. I'm not saying Evo guys are much better, I'm just stating my personal experiences.
You have met the wrong Subaru owners then. The ones I know are very cool and love their cars. Unfortunately, the IWSTI forum just doesn't represent itself as well as it should.
Evo owners are also incredibly smug.

Check it out
Edmunds did a comparison of different cars and offered their assessment. I'm still not convinced the MR is better than the GSR in such competitions. This still shows the Evo X dominance over most cars not costing twice as much.

I met a few, and one is my best buddy, and once you get to know them they're great people, what can I say!
And I can't seem to recall any time we've been "incredibly smug." :\
Story time:
I was at a gas station one time and the new STi pulls up to the pump next to me.
I'm all interested (and I must say, the car looks MUCH MUCH better in person!), and I ask him if I can just take a peek inside, and he just sort of rolls his eyes and gives me this look like "...right.."
He didn't really say anything. The only thing he said was "yeah" when I asked, "wait...aren't you the computer guy at my school?"
But anyway, I'm not using him to reflect STi owners as a whole, one person is too little to judge masses...just a little story.
[Anyone who asks me questions and if I have the time, I let them have a seat inside!]
Nice. What caught my eyes thou is how close the times r bet. both drivers for the subie. That made it seems as if it was easier to drive around a track, to the point were a novice driver can keep up.
I just hate the look.
