If you just read the posts and didn't know that it was WRX forum you would swear that it was a BMW forum the way they perceive how high quality the Impreza is. That's why I prefer the EVO community as it's all about performance not the excuses of tires, false perception of quality, how the kids fit into the car or if there is room for skis in a car that was purposely developed for the track.
for real though, i made the right choice. (for myself)
-my body panels have no rubbing issues
-stop sell was old news and is fixed.
-08 STi biggest problem. hesitation after 5200RPM. Fixed with Cobb Accessport
-I'm not going to take my car to the track (atleast anytime soon) if or when i do, I will not take it to the track STOCK
-I'm tired of big wings. ( i had a wrx swapped GC8 before)
-305 or the 330-340hp my car has now with the AP is plenty for my daily driving puposes. this car is fast.
-the hatch is awesome (when i go snowboarding, beach, football, road trips etc.)
-6-speed manual shift
-awesome transmission
-i love the looks of the buldging flares (looks are subjective)
-understeer? that can be fixed pretty easily with some front and rear sways for decent price. Tires will eventually be upgraded after the Dunlops wear out. sa'll good to me.
why not EVO X?
-car looks good, but it has a fast and furious body kit type look too it.
-front is mean... the rest of the car. . . . . . .i dunno
-5 speed manual GSR is no go for me. 6 speed only in autoshift or what you guys call it
-suspension is more rough that the STi from what I've heard. the STi is already rough I think, and im tired of it (had tein flex on GC8 before) also, i kinda like a raw feeling, the STi delivers that.
-it's kinda slow on the straights stock.
-i do not like the interior, except the seats.
that's why I made the right choice. we all made the right choices here, to each his own.
i also think magazine races are really dumb sometimes IMO (especially the issue where the r32 beat the sti... are you serious?)

-you are the only one then who dont have a fender vs door issue, so probably some kinda miss match parts on your car.
- stop sell is a old news today but back then was real recent, and they still not fixed the knocking on it perfectly. Although the engine is not a new design like the 4B11T.
-just like the STI bugging the X have it too, also can fixed by tune and instead the estimated 340 hp STI engine power , the X puts down bone stock 315 whp.

And yes it is wicked fast, being as a factory and only retuned car. It will walk on the STI .
SO the STI is loosing the edge in the straight away also.
- suspension ,if you touched it a same mods like you mentioned in the STI, the gap will be bigger then it was before between a two.
and that is just about the STI performance you mentioned.
The looks and etc is personal. not even go there. But just leave it that way.
the magazines are "dumb" sometimes, but when you have a close 100 to 1 finish in the tests , you should think you might be over confident yourself and the 08 STI. I would do.
no hard feeling. i think on pavement you will not touch the Evo and visa versa on gravel. So there is the hope.

I don't want to throw fuel to the fire but I especially like how the STI boys tout their car as superior quality lol. The major paint chipping issues (much worse than the EVO issue) engine recall and if you think the EVO X needs a reflash off the lot STI's have needed them for years, and while the interior has a nice flowing style, the materials are IMO no better than the materials in the EVO and the STI seats plain suck.

The interior in general, in my opinion, is more boring than ours. When I looked inside some guy's '08 STi (mentioned in my earlier post), nothing caught my eye. Looked plain and boring. On the issue of quality/material, I wouldn't know 'bout the STi, but my Evo is full of rattles, and yes, reality is, our interior consists of cheap material.
Reliability: I see more old Mitsubishis than Subarus. Either means Mitsubishis can last longer, or they were just more popular back then.
But I do remember reading somewhere Subaru topped the list on reliability, even beating Honda.
Yeah..
How does the X "walk" the STI when they have virtually identical performance numbers? That doesn't make any sense to me.
Mitsubishi has not been without its own share of problems so I don't think that point is very applicable.
How would the evo "walk" the STI in the suspension sense? Again, the numbers are very close and when both cars are modified, they begin to perform very similarly.
Personally I find the fanboyism displayed in threads like this just silly. The two cars are extraordinarily similar and to try to put one ahead of the other is impossible. Is the Evo great? Yes, is the STI great? Yes, end of story.
