Das

I need some feedback regarding DAS shipping service from those of you who have used them to either have the X shipped to your or any other car. Thanks!

Stay away from DAS! Yes they seem to have one of the better transport deals out there, but in the case of auto transport, you get what you pay for. I recommend, Intercity, Thomas Sunday, or Fedex(Passport). I used fedex recently for my M3 from Virginia to Los Angeles and I was extremely satisfied with their services. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!!!

I had planned on using DAS for my CA to OH transport, but was scared off by the hundreds of horrifying reviews I read online. Most involved transport damage, but also keep in mind they apparently load and unload your car at each depot along the way to make the most efficient use of their trucks. The trucks are sloped, so the most important break-in time is spent riding the clutch to slowly creep the cars into the right position. They certainly have great prices, and numerous people on here have used them without issue, but I wasn't willing to take the chance.

I used Intercity, and enclosed carrier, and they were amazing. Pickup to delivery was something like 7 days, which was great for a cross-country trip. The car came wrapped in foam and plastic for protection, and I had the cell phone number of the truck's driver in case I had any questions. It was about twice as expensive as DAS, but I wanted to be sure it was cared for instead of worrying about damage the entire time. Their service was all-around excellent.

If you're interested, I've got some pictures up here:

Wow if that isn't reason enough to go with intercity lines idk what is... My driver was Gary and he was a really good guy. Only "problem" we had was that we had to meet him at a local mall because he figured he wouldn't be able to get his 75 foot truck through the neighborhood, which was fine with me.

They also are very good about documenting things. When they pick up the car they give it a thorough look over and put down any blemish, dent, or anything they feel should be known. This protects the buyer, seller, and themselves.

It was 1400 for FL to NY so expect to pay alot.

DAS does not have a good reputation.

I used Horseless Carriage for shipping from South Coast to the East Coast. This company ships new Maseratis and Rolls' to their customers. All enclosed shipping and they are door to door. Your car does not leave the carrier until they drop it off at your house. The driver is in contact with you on his cell phone. They use their own trucks ie not a broker.

My car shared space with a Ferrari, an Aston convertible, a Porsche and...a Camry.

DAS quote was $1400 for enclosed transport and Horseless Carriage was $1800.

One other thing I forgot to mention. Many of the reviews online specifically criticized DAS's "enclosed transport" option, stating it was simply a canvas-sided truck that's open on the top and bottom. I can't say whether this is true, but if anyone is thinking of going this route it's worth looking into.

Kreeker: Yea, the truck wouldn't fit down my street either. It's enormous... quite a bit larger than a regular semi truck trailer. I picked out a nearby parking lot of an upscale (if there is such a thing) Wal-Mart with a large back lot to unload. Plenty of room, and we weren't bothered.

I forgot the name of the website, but there is a site you list what you want to ship and the drivers post their bids.

A co worker used it to ship a car from Cali to Virginia... I'll see if I can remember what it is

Any good stories about DAS? My X is being delivered to DAS Monday morning and going from Cali to Ohio (upper deck). I had a broker try and set something up and had nothing in a week so I switched to DAS because I need a car in a couple weeks not who the hell knows when.

DAS is high volume, so I'm sure there are quite a few good stories. A lot of guys here buy from South Coast, and they like to use DAS, so they're around. There was another very similar shipping thread probably 3-4 months back that had some positive experiences with them in it.

I just had my X shipped from NorCal to the east coast by DAS. Everything went smooth, and there were no damages. Mileage only incremented by 1 during the trip, so they weren't abusing it.

As far as time is concerned, DAS got it out there sooner than they quoted me. I was nervous about letting it sit at the depot for so long, but luckily nothing went wrong.

I did ship it enclosed, however what I was told by the DAS agent on the phone was that when they transport between local pick-up/drop-off and the main terminal, they transport it in an open carrier with plastic covering. However, I was ensured that it goes in a truck enclosed on all 6 sides by solid walls while being transported from origin terminal to destination terminal.

Personally, I would have gone with Intercity lines due to their reputation, however due to Pebble Beach, they were unable to offer me any service in the time frame I needed. All in all, with a top load, enclosed ship, and local pickup/drop-off, the price between DAS and Intercity was comparable.

I had my X shipped from Dallas to Baltimore through DAS. They quoted me 2 weeks time and it was at my local terminal in 5 days after being dropped off. No damages, and the mileage was in check. Cost me $500 bucks. My insurance company told me that it would be covered under damages if something were to go wrong, so I bypassed the extra $$$ for DAS insurance, however I later found out that this was not the case for my particular insurance company. I would have spent the extra $160 for to insure it up to $50k if anything were to be damaged.

I was able to track cars journey across America every 30 minutes w/ their websites.

My Evo went from South Coast to NC on DAS. I used the cheapest service they offered, bottom level of the truck, no expedite, open carrier, no frills. My car arrived on time, clean, no problems at all, and I could track it via thier location transceivers on the truck. I did buy the extra insurance, but it ended up not being needed. I would recommend the insurance anyway though.

I used DAS to transport from south coast to ny. It ended up arriving a little over 3 weeks late. I used the cheapest method possible so I guess it was expected. When I finally got the car there were no scratches or marks. Just stupid stickers and very dusty. If I had to do it over again I would pay extra and use citylimits.
