Evo X MR DD?
Evo X MR DD?
Hey guys i wanted to know if was possible to drive the MR lightly or does it feel like it always wants to be pushed. Im coming from a 2004 STI and it does not like to be driven slow. The MR would become my DD and i was going to get a ralliart but a local dealer gave me an offer i cant resist. I would be doing mostly City driving. Thanks in advance for all your help.
I haven't driven one but I'm going to say it would make a good DD because it has different modes on the transmission for different driving scenarios. I DD my VIII and it is always begging to get driven hard but I like that.
^^ yea see i cant have that i dont need any more tickets i need a car that will only want2 be pushed when i want2 push it. I don't want to have the car control my driving habits. So it sounds like as long as ur in normal it drives like a regular car?
haha, you'll have to control that right foot.
I DD my MR and so far so good, although I am still breaking it in. Gonna see how the MPG goes. Although I didn't buy it to get good or even decent MPG.
Turbos own.

I agree that the MR makes a great daily driver. As mentioned, just leave the SST in Normal mode. If your foot isn't in it, it will often shift around 3K RPM. However, if you need to pass someone, flooring it will run cause a downshift and the car will run to redline before shifting up again.
Sometimes, when I'm in traffic and need that extra little performance, I'll switch to Sport mode. Here the RPMs usually seem to stay between 3K-5K RPMs during normal driving. Then when I'm ready to slow down again, I'll switch back to Normal.
Sport mode is also great for mountain roads. Besides providing that extra power going into or exiting a turn, the additional engine braking going downhill is really appreciated.

I drive an 08 MR and I love the transmission when I'm not in stop and go traffic. I went on a group EVO drive a couple of weeks back through twisties, straights, long sweepers, etc. and I used only the flippers behind the steering wheel and I loved it. I didn't use any of the shift modes (normal, sport, s-sport) because I really wanted to control the shifting. The controlled shifting worked flawlessly. I loved it.
I have still yet to use the sport and s-sport modes and the car has 1,200 miles on it. Of course I don't Auto-X, drag or anything, just the occasional street race, but nothing special. I just keep it auto mode all the time, unless I want to pass on the highway then I use the flippers.
Now to the bad part, during my commute to work, its all highway, but during a highway interchange, my exit lane gets backed up and turns into stop and go traffic for about 5-10 minutes. During this time (the car is in auto mode), it just seems like the car struggles to know when to shift into 2nd or go back down into 1st. Its real jerky sometimes, maybe when there is some seperation between the car in front of you and you can give it a little more gas then letting it idle forward. Its just not that smooth. I have tried all senerios I can think of to make it smoother during this stop and go traffic, less gass, more gas, easy on the gas, idling forward, etc. Maybe its me, I don't know. Its just not as smooth as I think it should be. As for a DD, all the time spent not driving in stop and go traffic, makes it worth it!
In no way, do I ever regret getting this transmission. Overall, I love it. Yes, everyone is scared to really heavily modify an MR in fear of blowing the SST, but in time, someone will figure out the SST. As for now, simple bolt ons and tuning can net you 320-350 whp and thats plenty until they figure out the SST.

I test drove a X MR 3 days ago...it really has evovled....its really really impressive and so smooth to drive....the larger brakes, wheels, suspension is really top notch that a daily driver would love....
If i bought a X it would def be a WW MR

I have an MR daily driver, and in auto mode it feels more like a luxury car with a little more power. It is very tame till you kick down (floor it). I love the way it can feel like many different cars depending on the transmission mode (auto/sport/s-sport/manual).
The only thing I have noticed is some drivetrain shock if you decelerate quickly and then suddenly floor it because it tends to stick in a high gear in normal mode till you kick down. I think it is because it takes some time to shift from 5th to 2nd, but meanwhile the revs are increasing quickly. I haven't noticed your problem, though. The car is perfectly smooth in stop and go traffic, something my VIII was not good at.
