In case you haven't seen it yet.

I think the 370z looks awesome. Its also rumored to have lost a couple hundred
pounds and 330+ hp. The interior looks sexy as hell too.
We're in the same boat. I'd wait like 6 months. By then the 370z, Genesis coupe,
Camaro, etc hit the streets with the likelyhood that info about the real X MR and upgraded STi should hit the web.

You just bought an 08 and now you're wanting to burn some money trying to sell/trade it in?
The 370z isn't even near the same performance as the Evo. It has more grunt down low, but there's very little you can do cheaply to extract more power. Plus the Z is heavy as hell.
And inneedof, take your **** elsewhere. Just cuz you can't afford a better car doesn't mean everyone else has to lower their standards

On the track with a properly set up suspension, the current Z can hold more than it's own.
I bet the 370z stock vs stock X will beat it on the drag and on the track.
That I agree with. =]

I do know enough about the 370z and current 350z to know that someone coming from an Evo will not be happy except for puttering around town because the VQ is a more streetable engine (power down low).

Also, I say if you give a 370z owner and an X owner $1k to spend to mod their car, the X clears up any deficiency it had in EITHER race.
In any case, the 370z is a two seater "sports" car whereas I can have 5 people in my Evo and still spank it on the track. Two different cars... two different lifestyles... two different choices.
Nissan and lightweight do not happen these days unfortunately. I sincerely doubt that the 370z will come in at 3000 pounds after it's all said and done. The current 350z comes in at 3300# (base trim level).
- Zs weigh less than Evos. My IX weighs 3190lbs with 3/4 tank and no weight reduction. I've seen plenty of Zs weighed and similar setups (lots of gas, no weight reduction) came in lighter than my Evo.

- It's very true you won't get the power from bolt-ons as you can from an Evo (trust me, I know). Current VQ35HR Zs are at least putting down over 300rwhp with bolt-ons and a tune now. One of the reasons they don't make much from bolt-ons (besides the obvious missing turbo thing) is that they're well built from the factory. The engine does have WAY more potential, but as you said, cost way more coin.
vs what? a stock evo? A modded evo? I'd say it depends a lot on the track and the driver.
- A bone-stock Z has already whooped on an Evo around VIR (and a NISMO Z still holds a better lap time around it than an Evo X MR). When it comes to mods, it can go either way. Each setup has it's strengths and weaknesses.
Depends on what the 370z comes in on weight wise and power wise. It will have more nominal power (330+hp vs. "291" in the X). The X is not a drag strip car though, so I could care less if I get beat at the strip. I like to turn. I predict that a stock 370z will be competitive on the track vs. an X GSR, but I wouldn't say that there will be a smackdown happening.
- VQ35HR-powered Zs have run best times of 13.1 and have trapped over 107 bone stock, which is faster than any X I've seen (please correct me if I'm wrong). I also agree with you on both cars on a track to a point. The 370Z is shedding ~200lbs and adding almost 30hp. I really think it will be able to edge out a X on track.
Also, I say if you give a 370z owner and an X owner $1k to spend to mod their car, the X clears up any deficiency it had in EITHER race.
- I've already answered this one. The Z will always have more potential, but also require more money to reach it.

MotorTrend 370Z Review., Gotta give it to Nissan.
The 370z spy shots look a little assy if you know what i mean. Btw their two completely differant cars. evo is a high reving awd trubo 4. and the z is a 2 seater coupe with a naturally aspirated engine. supposedly it will be the same one froma the g37. I say wait and drive your tsx for another year or two untill all the kinks are fixed out of the z and then decide.

Published specs for the 08 350z put it at 3320#. Older ones might have been lighter. The X is 3517#.

Agreed. I have had two G35s (03 Coupe and 08 Sedan) and extracting power from them is unreasonably expensive IMO -- 20hp from a tune!)

So you pit a NISMO prepped Z against an overweight underpowered X MR? Seems fair. This is a problem I have with track comparos in general. Different cars perform differently on different tracks. Who knows, at another track, where the cornering ability of the X could provide an advantage vs. the superior acceleration in the straights of the Z, the result could be different? (not saying it would)

The generally accepted numbers I am seeing for the 350z put it square in the same space of the GSR X (upper 13's). The 370, if lighter and more HP should be closer to 13.0.

Potential for what purpose? And is it more or MORE
