Went to Purchase a STI Came Home With EVO!
The STi from the factory have a power/boost limiter until it reaches a certain mileage (i believe 800). That's why the Evo felt torquier over the STi.
Could have also been in the wrong mode. I believe dealers normally have you test in the low power mode. Congrats on the purchase though!
The STI's have this weird tuning for emissions that keep it laggy and for a loss of power below 4000 RPMS. A proper tune can fix this from what I have heard. They really wake up when you remove the many cats and tune it, 300-300 can be found easilly.
Congrats! You made the right choice.
A note on the notchiness. My second and third gear were a bit notchy when the car was brand new, but its buttery smooth now that I have 900 miles on the car. Just give some time for everything to settle in.

congrats to you, got mine 3 weeks ago ( octane blue gsr sss package)
just 2nd to 3rd shift is a bit grindy , still got 500 miles on it though. will give it more time or bring it back to dealer for adjustments. other than that, the X rocks!
