Went to Purchase a STI Came Home With EVO!
Subaru issued a "stop sale" on 08 STI's in April which means they had to stop selling them.
I can't remember the exact problem but I believe it had to do with the manufacturer of the crank not cleaning the shaving out of holes that were drilled. The shavings would get moved around the engine causing all kinds of problems as you can imagine.
So a "stop sale" was put in place until a resolution was found. The fix was to drain the oil, perform a test to see if that vehicle fell victim to this and use a magnetic oil plug.

What a great post & stories.I myself purchased a brand new X in GG. I had a Silver 04 STi bought brand new in 11/03. Subaru sent me the offers to trade up to 08 STI.I went and looked at them and they looked better in person than all these pix I saw. They had a Silver w/BBS and reminded me of mine,I liked the dark grey but it had the 5 spoke wheels and didn't like it. I just don't like that hatch style and front end reminded me of a Toyota Corolla, front end is a so plain and smiling at you or something (weak)?? Kinda lost interest in new car, mine had been paid off 6 months so didn't matter. The bouncy/harsh ride and no radio and crappy seats must of gotten to me.
Long story short and a month later:I was with my new GF,we went out for lunch. We drove by the
dealdership and there was a what I called "Charcoal Grey" Evo right in front of the big plate glass . My GF face light up/big smile and said lets go look at it <so we did>, stopped in looked at it than went inside to sit in the WW in the show room and the seats were awesome!!! I just knew I wanted it and that menacing front end killer body lines and aero pkge.
The salesman provided me w/that brochure that has all the articles in from all the top Mags.Read the crap out of it and decided I should get it.
It's so smooth and refined and drives great, lot's of looks and the color is classy as hell,I'm 40 and found the color just perfect.I have not used a drop of oil so far (app 2500), the STi went thru 1 qt every 1000-1500 miles for the 1st 12,000 miles.
The STi had lots of vibration and suspension noises, clunking rear struts and that F'in bounce (like an F-350 no weight in it) Time to get rid of it,got top $$$ for trade w/38K on it.Very much happy w/my purchase. I never see any Evo's around here. . which is nice.
I really miss that Stg-2 TQ that my STi had (PDX maps) the Evo has lots of lag to me,not as raw per say. So kinda bummed on the Power/Tq right now been still taking it easy.Next spring I will be doing samething I did w/the STi. Cannot wait
