Went to Purchase a STI Came Home With EVO!
I live in MD and got a great deal worked out on an 08STI for 29K with a lot of options. My GF and I took a train to New Jersey where the Subaru dealership was located.
Got to the lot where we inspected the car and took it out for a test drive. This is my first test drive in a STI believe it or not and expected more. I was disappointed with what seemed like a lack of torque or power below 4k. On top of this my GF hated the look of the car and the interior seemed small for us.
I figured for the price it was a good deal so we went inside to start the paper work. As were were getting ready to start I luckily remember to ask for proof that the stop sale test was performed. After about 10 minutes of "we have the paper but can't find it - please wait" I got bored.
My GF and I walked out side and 20ft directly across the street was a Mitsubishi dealer. GF says that car looks cool and I told her it was out of our price range. I had never driven an EVO either so I figured what the hell let's go check it out.
Well that was that.
All I can say is that it was a night and day difference from the STI to the EVO. Hands down the EVO crushed the STI in every aspect except for the interior. I loved the low end torque and power. I was literally sold the first 2 minutes into the drive ( dealer didn't know that but I did ).
Couple hours later I was driving home our new EVO GSR (SSS). I could tell the STI salesman was pissed because he would walk outside every 5 minutes to smoke and watch us negotiate. Also the fact that he called me about 4 times while I was in the Mitsubishi dealer and once this morning was a good indication
Only things I don't like so far are:
1. Serious notchy/grind into 3rd either way. I'm hoping this will work it's self out but I have a feeling that it won't.
2. The seats are so damn tight on me to the point where it's uncomfortable. No I'm not 300 pounds, I have been lifting for about 11 years so my back doesn't fit into the seat well at all.
3. Just noticed the steering wheel is slightly off center to the left. Car drives straight but this annoys me to no end. My is300 is like this also so it's a sore spot for me.
That being said this car kicks ***!

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome! It's odd you feel the evo has more low-end torque; that's where the 2.5L of the subaru "shines".
This is kinda what happened to my wife and I before getting the x mr.We were at a subaru dealer and saw a black 08 sti.I drove it was not impressed my wife drove it and liked it.They were giving us a smoking deal on the sti.But we were not ready to buy a car.Couple of weeks later we went to drive a x gsr and was very impressed with power delivery from twin scroll turbo, the handling is sick-insane.There are lots of faster cars out there but they dont handle like this car. Also the car is lots of fun to drive.
I did the same thing. My last 3 cars were turbo'd Subarus. I had my mind on the STI and came away with my first Mitsubishi and, of course, first Evo. This from a Mistu hater.....well, certainly not a fan of the previous boy racer Evos AT ALL! Sorry to previous Evo fans, but in my opinion the earlier cars were ugly econo **** boxes with erratic engines.
Bought a red Evo X GSR SSS. My only complaints have been a rattle in the dash, the clutch seems a bit wimpy, XM radio loses signal and the battery in the trunk doesn't seem to have the cranking power for Wisconsin winters. Otherwise, this car is a blast. It is by far the most exciting, best handling car I have ever owned. I can't even get to the limits! Brilliant! Just waiting for my dealer to install the AMS upgrades and do some window tinting to make it perfect.

I will get some pics up asap but it may be a while. I also got a new English Bulldog and he decided to jump up grab my digital camera off my desk then proceed to chew it to pieces.
Anyway it's the dark Grey ( i don't even know the code ) with SSS.
Thanks everyone!
