To OP: Congrats on the new car! and WELCOME to the DARKSIDE
congrats to u 2 for seeing the light and coming to mitsu, but just to comment on ur opinion on the older evos i think the older sti's also had the boy racer look. and i am not a fan of of the sti that replaced the 04's look. and erratic engines????? do explain
I did the same thing. My last 3 cars were turbo'd Subarus. I had my mind on the STI and came away with my first Mitsubishi and, of course, first Evo. This from a Mistu hater.....well, certainly not a fan of the previous boy racer Evos AT ALL! Sorry to previous Evo fans, but in my opinion the earlier cars were ugly econo **** boxes with erratic engines.
Bought a red Evo X GSR SSS. My only complaints have been a rattle in the dash, the clutch seems a bit wimpy, XM radio loses signal and the battery in the trunk doesn't seem to have the cranking power for Wisconsin winters. Otherwise, this car is a blast. It is by far the most exciting, best handling car I have ever owned. I can't even get to the limits! Brilliant! Just waiting for my dealer to install the AMS upgrades and do some window tinting to make it perfect.

I live in MD and got a great deal worked out on an 08STI for 29K with a lot of options. My GF and I took a train to New Jersey where the Subaru dealership was located.
Got to the lot where we inspected the car and took it out for a test drive. This is my first test drive in a STI believe it or not and expected more. I was disappointed with what seemed like a lack of torque or power below 4k. On top of this my GF hated the look of the car and the interior seemed small for us.
I figured for the price it was a good deal so we went inside to start the paper work. As were were getting ready to start I luckily remember to ask for proof that the stop sale test was performed. After about 10 minutes of "we have the paper but can't find it - please wait" I got bored.
My GF and I walked out side and 20ft directly across the street was a Mitsubishi dealer. GF says that car looks cool and I told her it was out of our price range. I had never driven an EVO either so I figured what the hell let's go check it out.
Well that was that.
All I can say is that it was a night and day difference from the STI to the EVO. Hands down the EVO crushed the STI in every aspect except for the interior. I loved the low end torque and power. I was literally sold the first 2 minutes into the drive ( dealer didn't know that but I did ).
Couple hours later I was driving home our new EVO GSR (SSS). I could tell the STI salesman was pissed because he would walk outside every 5 minutes to smoke and watch us negotiate. Also the fact that he called me about 4 times while I was in the Mitsubishi dealer and once this morning was a good indication
Only things I don't like so far are:
1. Serious notchy/grind into 3rd either way. I'm hoping this will work it's self out but I have a feeling that it won't.
2. The seats are so damn tight on me to the point where it's uncomfortable. No I'm not 300 pounds, I have been lifting for about 11 years so my back doesn't fit into the seat well at all.
3. Just noticed the steering wheel is slightly off center to the left. Car drives straight but this annoys me to no end. My is300 is like this also so it's a sore spot for me.
That being said this car kicks ***!

(1) You need to tear out OEM seat and get the "Arnold Schwartnegger" seat from Mitsu; I hear it is in production for people like you ..... I think.
(2) The tranny is not "notchy" when shifting fast and associated rev's; also it will go away with time/miles (see post below):

+1 on this. i've posted about this but nobody seems to share the same impression. i had it aligned recently and after 6 months it was still well within spec. the only thing that was off was the rear tow which was from ratcheting it down during shipping and trucking.
I also test drove a new STI and had 8 grand off MSRP PLUS 0% financing for 63 months....but I passed because the DEAL was oh so right but the CAR was oh-so wrong.... LOL... I'm going to wait for the EVO deals to come in...I hope.... I really really like the MR.
I recommend that you get the alignment checked ASAP (under warranty if you can). The last two Mitsubishis that I have bought new came misaligned from the lot. It's fairly common that the alignment gets jacked during transport. The steering wheel should be straight, so have the dealer check it out. The Advans will wear prematurely if you wait too long.
Oh, and congratulations...
Oh, and congratulations...
ok the reason that the wheel is turned to the left is because of the steering rack.
To get the wheel dead on, here's what my alignment tech (that's been doing it for 20+ years) did:
- get the toe @ 0*
- turn the car on, watch the toe change
- redial in the toe to 0*
- repeat until the toe was 0* when the car was on
(it took 3-4 times of turning the car on).
When the car was turned on, the toe would drift about 0.06* total each time -- just enough to be annoying.
And I've got broad shoulders (and some other places aren't as skinny as the could be either) and I feel the seats pinching me. Honestly for long trips, I have to take my phone and wallet out of my pocket and get in "just right" or else it will cause my shoulders and back to spasm after about 30 minutes. Changing the seat incline, steering wheel position, etc. do help, but I hate it when people jack with my seat.
And after 9k+ miles, my 1-2 and 2-3 are still notchy when cold or when shifting quickly (I get locked out sometimes on a 1-2), but when on the road course, at high revs, everything is smooooooooth.
