will the 370z out-perform the Evo X?

Well, 3359 lbs WITH the sport package that has lighter wheels and the test car didn't even have leather or automatic seats, which will add even more. That's not far off from the X's weight of 3480-3500 (if you have the SSS). Worth noting is the fact that everyone keeps saying that it's lighter and has more power, and while true, that's a little misleading. It has about 30 more HP (the X had 291 with the original relase, but the newest reflash that leaned out the A/F makes about 10 whp on the dyno so it's safe to say that it has about 300), but about 30+ lb ft less torque, and not only that but peak torque comes in earlier in the X. Then factor in how much easier it is to get power out of the X and well, nuff said. The Z is a good all around car, but the EVO is a more capable machine and this will materialize in the aftermarket/tuner world just as it did with the last gen evo and Z cars. Like I said before, the Z is a sports car with a nice interior, the EVO is a race car with a crappy interior. You get what you pay for.

Let me say this once again,
Why is Formula1 RWD?
I know I'm talking extreme cases, but AWD just does not make up for the weight and aerodynamics disadvantage, let alone reliability issues when racing due to more moving parts
EVO is no more race car than a 350/370Z, at least not since Evo VII and in non-RS form. VQ35/37 can handle just as much hp with stock block as 4B11 if not more, and has won many more engine awards, although the time may prove me wrong. You are mistaking Evo X with GT3 RS or something.

According to motortrend 0-60 is 4.7 and the Quarter Mile in 13.3 sec. at 105.7 MPH.

How's it going Ken. I'm the owner of the Z in the USCC competition. Since you weren't there, let me educate you a little bit before you jump to conclusions. If you even read the magazine article, you'd see that I lost only by 10 points, in which the total point score was a # in the 1000s. if you do your error calculation, for bias or whatever, then 10 points is in the noise. really could have gone either way... I placed 1st in the time attack/lap battle. I placed 2nd in the highest hp (1st in torque). 1st in mpg. 1st in car show. 2nd in engineering. just behind the X in drivability. slightly behind the X in emissions. 2nd in braking. The places where i lost bad was (duh) quarter mile and 20-100, and skid pad. i give credit to the AWD system for massive grip there. AMS built a great Evo X. But i'd hardly say my Z was a "Nightmare for Nissan" Had i placed dead last. then yes.

Later, Ken
lol he must be talking about S-AWC. Another guy who thinks Evo is a batmobile or knight rider's kitt.
I am happy to see that a lot of Evo owners are very proud of their cars, but they need to be proud of the facts, not delusion.
All these computer controlled limited slip aids are there to 'mute out' the lost time made from bad decisions by the driver during a turn due to bad weight transfer (such as harsh clutch engagement, accelarating on entry of a turn, lift throttle, braking during an exit of a turn etc). They don't magically shave few seconds off the track time nor make the car defeat the law of physics during turns.

The two cars cannot be compared... The Evo is a Rally Car made into a street car. Yes we use it for drag racing and for road course but in all reality it's a rally car.
Now saying that the Evo makes crazy power with very little money... Bang for the buck I think the Evo is a better car. Maybe because it's such a versatile car or maybe because the consumer makes it one by modifying it to their application. It's also a very forgiving car for beginner drivers and can make any pro grin as it come out of a curve sliding all four.
I love my evo but it's not Kitt....

Although more generic, changes like this would be nice (sorry for the crappy edit, it was done in MS Paint cuz I'm at work, but hopefully you get the idea):

13.30@105.7 in 90 degree heat.
Skidpad - .99g
60-0 Braking – 106 ft
Nissan folks are hoping real world numbers will be a bit quicker.
IMO, this is going to be a really nice car. One thing is for sure, its better than any 2002-2008 350Z by a whole lot.
