will the 370z out-perform the Evo X?
i have a friend who plans on getting the new upcomming 370z... i plan on getting a Evo X GSR and well i was doing my homework on the Z and i see that it will be lighter (-200ish lbs), wider, and faster than the current version...
so if i drag race one of these new Zs will i still be victorious
or will it be the other way around?
PS - Yes i know the new Z isn't out yet but it just made me wonder...

Stock for stock the EVO will take the Z on the launch, with the Z pulling ahead top end. The X just doesn't have that great of top end performance, especially when you consider its weight.
Ultimately, right out the box, you can get more out of the EVO, than a Z, however if the Z is going to be 200+lbs lighter than the out going 350Z, that means that new 370Z will be roughly 3100-3200 lbs for the base model.
That 3.7 liter will likely produce more than infinite's G37, keeping to tradition. So it will probably do better than a new X in straight line performance, but as soon as a turn comes into the skeem of things, the Z will faulter. On the track, the EVO X is incredible.
A strong likely contender to challenge the EVO X trackability might come from an unlikely soruce, Acura/Honda. The new TL, with SH-AWD, a 6 speed manual, and 305hp on top will make for a great show. The SH-AWD system on the TL is essentially the same drivetrain in the EVO. That is the EVO and the TL will both be AWD vehicles, sporting a rear diff that places power to the outside wheel during turn ins. And lets not forget the incredible resale value of Acura, and their note worthy interiors, and techno gadgets.

btw: SH-AWD is an option, and so is a 6speed manual, on the TL. Can't wait to see the Type S variant, although I'll admit, I'm done with VTEC as after owning a couple turbo cars, VTEC is useless without boost.

LOL! No one is going to ever track a TL.
Its basically got the same engine and AWD system of the RL which no one ever tracked. lol seriously who would track a TL?

I think it's gonna be really hard to say, especially considering the car isn't on the market yet. Of course the evo guys will say evo, but with the specs of the Z there is some definite potential there. The 3.7 engine is a lot better than the old 3.5, and I've been hearing it can hold 540whp with stock internals with no problems. That's nearly as good as the old 4g!
That being said, I kind of doubt the Z will be as fast as its being hyped up to be. The formula does add up, though, so we'll have to see.
^^ and I dunno if anyone WILL track it, but the 2010 TL with 6 speed and sh-awd can go around the Dynamics Handling Course, as tested by Inside Line at Edmunds, 2.7 seconds faster than a BMW 335i. That's as good as any stock Evo could manage. Don't be so quick to dismiss it.
I almost see the car ('10 TL sh-awd with 6spd) as an upscale version of the Evo X. Yea its heavier, slower(straight line), yada yada and once modding comes into play more yada yada but those results are still very impressive. It definitely has a lot of potential.

Factory boost = more hp gains from your mods vs a NA car. The Z might get you if you're stock but with a turboback and a tune the only thing the Z is going to see is a fireball from your exhaust as you leave him behind by about 4 lengths or more
I dont agree w/ the TL.... people assume just because a car has good power and AWD it will be fast on the track... WRONG!
actually im a big fan of the TL (old and new) not get me wrong but it takes alot more then SH-AWD and power to beat the evo on the track. rather honda is tuning the TL to crush cars like 3 series bimmers and g35s.
now take the STI for example, it has everything it needs on paper but it just falls short. i dont know about straight line power but on the track, i believe the evo is on top inthe price range.

Why would you think that? even if it makes 350hp crank so 50 more than a 350z does I doubt it would be a problem to outrun if you had just basic bolt ons even untuned. With a test pipe/catback/intake on my X a 350z with a catback is laughable and I put 6+ cars on them thats with factory full weight minus the spare tire. If I had a tune it would be closer to 9-10 lengths easily I'd think. Ultimately also the car is NA so they will have full bolt ons and gain maybe 40whp whereas with a turbo car you can either MBC raise your boost a few pounds to achieve that or get a turbo back and make more than that for a lot less money.

The gap over those cars is about as good as any evo ix or x would do stock
