I thought you were going to say "I test drove all of these cars and picked a EVO X MR!!" at which time I would have said you are full of crap

I've driven a M3 and they are so nice I don't even think I could beat on it. Truly a gorgeous car.

The other 2 don't do anything for me.

You could always get the X and take 10K of that left over money and throw it into mods. Then you will have one hell of a car.

I'm with smgevo... I chose the Evo X MR over the new E90 M3 sedan as well. And, no, money wasn't an issue.

Bottom line was--I loved driving the Evo. The M3 just didn't "speak" to me. Fast, luxurious, sure, but not as much _fun_ as the Evo.

I personally would Love to have both cars and If I ever could I would... Have a M3 for nice weekends and mostly DD and the Evo for all around fun and winter driving..
I love my Evo for everything but I am just too tempted to mod it and make it go faster... The BMW on the other hand I want as a nice DD that is still quick and fun to drive but I wouldn't really want to mod it because of price to mod... But you also need to consider Where you live like lots of snow and rain you might want the AWD but you live in a place with like no snow then the RWD M3 is a good choice...

When can we stop comparing cars that cost twice as much? If anyone on this site had enough money to buy the e92 M3 or the c63 AMG over the EVO X they would. The EVO is a great car, but it does not even come close in build quality.

Of course guys with enough money will buy both, but all these people that say they "test drive" them all and then choose the EVO X most likely can't afford the $60 - $70k MSPR's.

Rather large assumptions on your part as to our individual wealth and our decision to buy a particular car.

No one has ever said anywhere in any forum ever that the Evo has better build quality or a more luxurious interior or appointments. It doesn't, and the M3,C63,RS4,ISF, etc. is superior in this regard. And that is one of the reasons that they cost 30-37,000 more than an Evo. In fact you can buy two Evo X GSR's for the price of one of these other cars loaded. (To address the other post regarding the RS4, it is not made anymore so we frequently forget about it. However the used market for these cars is in the low to mid 30's, so it is a very fare comparison and the RS4 is an awsome car and incredibly smooth on the road)

From a suspension and driver feedback point of view, these other cars are not superior, and in fact some inferior. The reasons a comparison is in order is because all of these cars are performance four door "drivers" cars. the fact that they are twice as much means nothing. Why then do we frequently compare an R8, GTR, 911 turbo, and a Ferrari in the same comparisons? More than a 30K difference there.

If you are looking for luxury, buy one of the other cars. If you are looking for driver involvement, the Evo X (and the IIX and IX) are serious competitors. I passed on the M3DCT because the bugs have not been worked out completely with the threshold breaking downshift problems (or lack there of) and other heat related issues with the tranny. I solved the overheating issues with the SST and those with 400hp in their Evo will give the M3 a run for its money.

I have been driving German cars for over 20 years, and American muscle 10 years prior. The Evo represents some of the best Japan has to offer for the driving enthusiast. I am sure I will be back to BMW or another German marque soon, but am enjoying the vacation in Japan...

Thanks...All I was saying is that anyone that can afford one vs. the other...will choose the e92M3, C63 AMG, etc. As far as a drivers car (handling, feedback, etc..) the EVO is amazing!

It just seems that so many people are comparing these cars as IF they can pick any of them, but went with the EVO X.

I guess we will agree to disagree. I can afford, as well as others, the new BMW or Merc, but chose to buy the Evo for various non financial reasons. There have been however many documented posts on this forum that have admitted that their choice of their Evo was in fact financial based.

What was your reason to move from BMW's M brand to the Evo X rather than purchasing the new M3? Honest question and not trying to bait you negatively. You obviously like your new Evo and have many positive posts about it.

I disagree with you. The Merc and M3 are luxury performance cars with more limited mod potential. While the Evo is a pure drivers car without the crap. In addition, the Evo has a much higher performance possibilites (across the board). If one is looking for luxury (and all the other foo foo crap), definitely don't look at the Evo, if one wants a car that slice and dice up every known road and race track the Evo is it.

I have a e46M3 heavily modded and an EVO X with WORKs wheels and Cusco coil-overs. If I could afford the e92 M3 I would have bought it, but outside my budget. For me, and my budget, the EVO X was by far the best choice. I'm loving it as well. The handling is unbelievable!

lol i was just kidding about the RS4. I think the comparison in this thread is not fair at all.

Fair enough

I have a E36 track car and the EvoX is now faster at a road course.
