Will Evo X ever rally in the WRC?
Here is a quote from the British Motorsport News. The new factory Evo 10 will compete in the Wales Rally GB this December. " The major question is whether the team will choose to stay in the British Rally Championship in which it fields two factory backed (Evo9) cars for Guy Wilks and Gwyndaf Evans, or switch to another series. (this is old news)

Tomorrow's World Motor Sport Council meeting is expected to announce that the future of the World Rally Car will be based on Super 2000 machinery alone, forcing the hand of firms like Subaru to create a whole new car.
It had been expected that the next generation of World Rally Car would be based on both Super 2000 and Group N cars - with a kit of parts being added to both to create the new WRC.
The World Rally Championship Commission has made a detailed study of both categories and it is reported that it would be too difficult to maintain performance parity between the two.
Such a decision will force Subaru's hand if it remains in the sport. The Japanese firm had been considering running its car off the Group N Impreza WRX, but that car would now be redundant at the highest level of the sport.
The Commission reported in its proposal to the WMSC, leaked to autosport.com, that there were serious concerns over the cost implications of trying to level the playing field between two quite different cars.
The proposal states: "There is clearly a problem in managing the performance equalisation which is necessary when the Super 2000 and Group N cars are competing directly with each other."
Tomorrow's meeting of the WMSC is also expected to outline an agreement with Ralliart Italy to supply the five Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Xs for the Pirelli Star Drive winners.

Hands down Mitsubishi did what they set out to do, they dominated the WRC for 4 straight championships, they literally kicked Subaru's tail pipes in!!! 7 out 10 magazines prefer the X over the new STI and the EVO is revered by many not just a select few! Once the new Fq400 is launched and it crushes the GTR, Mitsubishi will once again further their reputation of building extremely fast AWD turbo 4's... domination among the many and all those who try to imitate or oppose on the EVO and it's legacy!!!
all day everyday

Today's World Motor Sport Council meeting confirmed that the World Rally Championship will become a Super 2000-based series from 2010, as predicted by autosport.com yesterday.
A proposal to base the WRC on both Super 2000 and Group N cars was rejected following the World Rally Championship Commission's concerns over the cost implications of trying to level the playing field between the two cars.
The decision means that every manufacturer will be forced to introduce a new car for 2010, including Subaru who only entered their new Impreza part-way through the 2008 season.
A statement from the World Motor Sport Council said: "The 2010 World Rally Car will be S2000 based. However, the removable kit, already adopted by the WMSC, will be redefined with no electronic benefits, or similar upgrades, to ensure cost reductions.
"The new S2000-based World Rally Car will only be permitted for use on World Rally Championship events."
The FIA also confirmed that Group N cars, including the existing S2000, will be retained in the Production Car World Rally Championship, and that - as predicted by autosport.com - it is in negotiations with Ralliart Italy to supply and service Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution cars for the Pirelli Star Drive winners to contest their designated WRC events in during 2009 and 2010.

Basically, the Pirelli Star Drive is a rally driver search contest.

If the negotiation is successful with Ralliart Italy, five Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X will be the prize cars for the contest winner to compete in future WRC events.

We will see action with the X afterall!!!
The homologation group the winners will be involved in is either under the GrpN or the S2000 rules. That means the contest will be in P-WRC events, which is of one-tier lower than WRC. Technically speaking, P-WRC is no WRC but a companion rally series participating at the same WRC events for privateers and low budget factory works teams. Successful drivers in P-WRC usually have the chance to be picked up by big teams to drive in the WRC competition.

Which is so regulated it is sucks.

Anyway i love the PWRC better. More type of cars more exiting etc.

Just remember where the rally come from, not only 4 -5 manufacturer race- not just only Pro drivers with $300k car and $500K worth of equipment + team, etc.:
The rally was about ....

Robevo is correct. The PWRC is great fun to watch. Real world cars being beat to death and back. The IX has given the STI (old and new) a real walloping this season.
The IRC is fun, too. I used to be able to watch highlights last year on the Internet, but this year they restricted the U.S.

"Unsubstantiated reports have surfaced stating that Subaru will pull out of the World Rally Championship for the 2009 season. This follows the official news that Suzuki has also left the WRC. This would mean that for the first time in over twenty years, that a Japanese manufacturer has not contested the WRC. This is not too surprising as Subaru has struggled in the past few years to find the bottom rung of the podium. 2009 is the final year of Peter Solberg’s contract and so far, the younger Chris Atkinson has failed to find the pace to stay in the top 5. At this season’s end, Solberg and Atkinson trailed Sebastien Loeb’s 122 points, with 50 and 46, respectively, with the two Subaru drivers firmly arrears of both the Citroen and Ford teams. This has been the status quo for the last few seasons. If anything, this may be a restructuring of the team with time to develop the new car and new talent. However, Subaru has staked their claim to being the world’s leader in AWD technology and rally is a big part of that. With a new STI now on the market, it is up to SWRT to win on Sunday to bring sales around on Monday. Stay tuned."

No Japanese at all until the S2000s in 2010 it seems?
