No 2009 Evo X for the USA. Confirmed by multiple sources within Mitsubishi.
There is a ton of '08's around me... three dealerships have at least 15 Evolutions EACH!
Bringing '09's will mean that they will have to sell the '08's even quicker at major discounts.
And who is going to want to pass on an '08 at a great deal when their isn't any major difference with the '09?
There is just too many '08's around for Mitsubishi to even think about bringing the '09.
I agree. If they bring the '09's they will be shooting themselves in the foot.

if the 09s are really going to roll out onto the production line, then better for consumers who are buying 08s which will be cheaper off the lot.. possibly. haha idk..
that's just my .02 cents
that's just my .02 cents
Possibly? I think for the most part, they will be! And if the 09's come, then you'll see a 08 graphite grey rolling around in chino hills, (I live in the same area) haha but only time will tell if the 09's are released or not. I think Mitsu was already producing 09's in 08 and stopped production on them early when they saw the 08's weren't selling as they hoped. And they are just holding them back for a few months hoping sales increase before they release them. So if they do release them and they don't sell, dealers wont be stuck with alot of 08's and alot of 09's also, only a small amount. Thats what I think. just my .02cents though.
Real Trouble for Mitsubishi
There are a LOT of people who want the 09 or even willing to wait to see of there's a 2010 refresh. The economy is bad so banks are not very willing to give loans. I sell boats and I can you here and now that car dealers can't approve everyone like they could even 6 months ago.
Compared to my 2007 Subaru Legacy Turbo the Evo X is not as practical car. The Legacy is much more comfortable and a better daily driver, yet it's still very fast and capable of good handling with some tweaks. I STILL want the Evo though because it's a true sports car, but it's hardcore demeanor hurts some sales.
All of this, along with a typical price tag that can easily nudge 40K and usually comes to at least 35K. It's more fun to drive than a Porsche Cayman and cheaper, but still not a cheap car to buy by any stretch.
And here we have the 2008 Evo's sitting on lots. They are the same cars that were sitting 4 months ago, 6 months ago and more. I don't want one of those for ANYWHERE dear the price I would have paid 6 months ago. A smart shopper knows an 08 car is INSTANTLY devalued when the calendar flips to 09. Some folks will factor that depreciation and won't want a 08 even when discounted by 2-3K.
So Mitsubishi is in a tough spot. There are simply too many Evo's and not enough buyers. The existing buyers will now want a hefty discount on a year old model. And many will simply wait to see what the next version has to offer.
If they DON'T send the 09, it will make many buyers (like me) afraid to buy an 08. I'll know the 2010 model will probably be a better car and no one likes buyers remorse during the 1st year of ownership.
If they DO send the 09 the only way to get rid of the 08 models is with a seriously big rebate. They'll need to swallow 2K at the very least as book depreciation will already be hitting those cars. I wouldn't touch a 08 Evo unless I could get it for 3K less than today's best price. That will only happen if Mitsubishi helps dealers directly.
And that's it. Very few of the 08's are going to sell. They'll sit and sit. A big rebate could make them the sports car deal of the decade even if the 2010 has some nicer features or a 2.5 motor.
Cheers,
R.

Huh?
Used Evo X MR's are very few and barely discounted enough to make them worthwhile against a new one.
I can get a mint IX MR for FAR cheaper and I do mean in the 7-8K range cheaper.
The IX was a great platform, but the X is just better and it's more of a real car. The IX will always have it's fans and it deserves to, but let's not get silly. After driving both the handling totally stock of a GSR or MR X is just ungodly good. I drove one back to back with a Cayman S and the Evo was the handling monster. The old IX needed a lot of tweaking to get into that zone and even then...still not up to what an X does.
Power is nice and the X upgrades easily, cheaply and steeply!

Dealer just offered me an MR at Invoice price. I'm really considering it. Do you know of any 08's being offered below invoice?
Thanks

It was just bad timing. The economy isn't great and no one is buying new cars, so the X is struggling just like any other car.
Popularity has nothing to do with the slow car sales. And if you do your homework you can get a IX for far less than a used X. Just from gauging the market and dealer auction prices I wouldn't pay a penny over $23k for a used IX MR with low miles and great condition.
A used X MR will run you in the $27-29k range.

On the flip side, I don't think X MRs have quite gotten down to 27-29K, 31-34K seems to be about right.
I wish I knew for sure if there was in fact going to be an 09 and i'd likely wait... however the problem is if you wait, you probably won't wind up with the 0% and that's nice to have. Plus, if they are going to have another RS model I might have to look at that, but i've gotten so many different answers when I ask about an 09 that I have just given up on who is right or wrong and really just don't care as much now.
