Checking a used car website I browse frequently-

Most Evo 6.5 Tommy Mak's range from $8k to $14k.
IX's range from $16k-$25k for the most part.

For each of these I dropped off the highest few and lowest few prices. These are prices off of a used car lot, not an auction or anything like that. So these are representative of actual prices in Japan.

For some comparison, when I had my Evo IV, I bought it for $4500, and there's a couple local Evo V's for sale for $6k right now.

(OT)_that is japan, where there were a lot of VI, V and VI produced and also the landmark recall of the VI AYC. but in UK and europe, the VI, V and IX still command a good price...(OT)

Exclamation There will be a 2009 Evolution. Period.

...MEANWHILE, back on topic...

I just called MMNA (again). The first time a month ago, they said YES, there WILL be a 2009, with production for the 2009 Lancer Evolution MR's coming for America slated to begin in April.

I called this morning after reading two threads of Tom foolery about no 09s, and when I called, Mitsubishi knows the economy and late launch of the 2008 Evolution equals some still sitting on the lot. The associate told me "We have been instructed to refer you to ask your local dealer."

TRANSLATION: "Go down and talk to your dealer, where hopefully they can A) Convince you to buy one of the 08s, or B) At the dealer's choice, they could additionally tell you 'NO 09s' in order for you to buy an 08.

I pointed out that after speaking with two local dealers who didn't know, that they told me to call corporate. At which point she checked with her manager, who replied, "We have no updates at this time, but YES THERE WILL BE a 2009."

Don't you get it? There will be a 2009, but they simply don't want to say it yet; they want to sell their 2008s first.

So go buy an 08 at a great deal so we can get the 09s soon enough.

Until new information, I hope this ends the "sky is falling" mentality of some people. There will be a 2009 Evolution!

Thanks Mitsubishi!

This really doesn't make much sense regarding the two dealers I spoke to. I already bought a Outlander from Healey Mistsubishi in NY and they KNOW I won't buy an 08 and will wait for a 2010, so why stick to the story of no 09's. Anyone who's told this to later find out it's a lie is going to NEVER shop at the dealer. I have friends planning on an Evo. Without exception they (and I) are all waiting, so dealers lying is a VERY bad move. Then again, I won't shop at Ramsey or Healey (Two BIG dealers) if they are both telling the same lie.

I know the GM at Healey and I think it's pretty unlikely that he "lied" to me about the 09's. I believe Mitsubishi told him there might be no 09's and an early 2010 refresh.

In any case it's nuts to buy an 08 until more info is in.

Isn't by definition an "early release 2010" mean it will still come out in 2009? Just like when you receive the "February 2009" of your favorite car magazine in late December 2008. A claimed refresh or not, Mitsubishi Motors North America is telling us (and anyone who wants to MMNA them themselves) that while 'we have no updates at this time', they are able to confirm that there will be a Mitsubishi Evolution released in 2009.

Speak for yourself about never shopping at a dealer that lies. A lot of people will still buy from there when they have the product. If South Coast does get the 09's and sells them for the low price they sold the 08's then I'd still buy from them.

And it does make sense to lie to a customer who has no interest in even buying an Evo X. If a dealership decides to go through with telling everyone there will be no 09's then they have to commit to it and tell everyone that. It's impossible to recover rep after telling one person no and the other yes since once word gets out that people are being told different stories the dealership's sales tactic will be exposed. If they say the 09's are not coming out and they do then all they have to say is Mitsubishi changed their mind or they were misinformed.

But I don't know. I guess we'll all find out in the months to come.

If a dealer lies to you and misleads you so he can move old inventory and that's cool with you, fine. I don't know anyone who'd be okay with that.
I spoke with Ramsey Mitsubishi today and again was told that the 2010 will be announced early. As far as they've been told, no 09's are coming.

I'm playing it safe. The 08's are not going anywhere and are losing value by the day. I'm toughing it out!

By definition when you want to sell or trade your 2010 no one is going to try to claim it's really an 09. And if I buy my 08 now no one will enjoy being told it's an 09 either.

We'll know the answer to this soon....09's 2010's....I just don't want buyer's remorse over a MUCH nicer 2010 that may cost the same. I could easily imagine a 2010 announced early summer with more HP and much better interior.
Or maybe it'll be small improvements and an 08 will be a smart bargain. All the same you must calculate the depreciation of a car from a previous calendar year. An 08 is really not a new and current car.
A clear example: I was offered an 08 Outlander at 2K less than the 09. But the year depreciation factor was steeper than 2K, so it was not enough savings. This is based on a projection 3-5 years from now, but they are generally pretty accurate.

An 08 isn't a new car but it is a current car. If an 08 isn't the current model EVO X then what is the current model? As long as the design doesn't change (which it wont anytime soon) then the 08', 09', 2010 or whatever are all current models.
