Has anyone installed the full '09 console yet?

I would assume so. JapanParts has a listing for the two boxes under Galant Fortis, which might be the same finish as your interior. Otherwise you could go with the Evo finish once we figure out what the parts are. I haven't heard back from them yet.

the first console matches our "carbon" trim. the second seems to just be a glossy solid color.. I am assuming they will have a choice?

Interesting. The first two pics are from someone that bought that setup on the Japanese Yahoo auction site. I assumed that indicated that they were available there. Looks like we might have to wait for the 2010's to arrive here, or maybe hit up some Canadian dealers.

Canada doesn't have 2009's so far so we don't have it either. It seems to be available in Australia and Gulf Coast cars.

As much as I like the look of the new console, I think that it loses a lot of its practicality. The 'cave' is taken up by the two covers; one of which is taken up partially by the AUX inputs. The lower cover is basically the ashtray/coinholder and 12V supply. And then the cupholder cover is nice but you lose the slot joining the two cupholder openings. The slot is nice because you can still hold things in it even if you have drinks in it.

Although I haven't totally ruled out upgrading to the new console, it seems to lose a lot of its practicality at the expense of aesthetics (form over function).

The carbon trim is for Ralliarts and GSR's. The dark gloss is for EVO X MR's.

I think that it would be MORE useful. The "cave" right now is all wasted space, good only for the ashtray and power outlet. I do wish that the upper box didn't have the aux ports taking up half of it, but whats left looks to be an additional usable covered storage space in an area that I don't do anything with right now.

I'm not entirely sure if I'd do the cupholder thing or not. The long space between them isn't really useful for anything for me, so I probably will.

I agree as you could have your ipod, cell phone, etc. hidden behind the lids rather than sitting out for thieves to see.

I use the "cave" for my Garmin which I attach to the the right side so it faces me. I do like the other piece though and Japan Parts has that listed on their sight for pretty cheap. the slot in the front of that peice is interchangable so if you want to keep the pocket, you just change out the inserts.

well i really like the look of the new console but i agree it seems like a waste of space, cuz the cave thing is pretty deep, but im defiantly buying the cupholder lid setup cuz i leave money or an ipod in mine alot

That's not true. The 2009 EVO X GSR Premium has the new floor console as you can see by the pic as well the article states that the floor console is revised. That is a Japan market car so the console should be available.
