Hey, I was wondering if any of you was able to get a rear wiper fitted on to the X. There have been quite a few times that I wished I had a wiper and not just a defroster on my rear windshield like the older evo.

Please, don't insult your intelligence with useless posts like "get a IX" etc. Just straight and simple answers will do.

 

I haven't seen this done yet. I think it looks ugly, but it's effective and it'd be nice to have one.

 

it would take some work on the x since the wiper was mounted on the windshield, there was a hole in it. i do miss that feature on my old 9mr but i don't use it that much so it's ok lol

 

anything can be done with the right amount of money, although i do wish we had it too.

 

If there's still water on your back window, you're not going fast enough! lol

Rear wipers are really nice to have - especially on the wet and dirty winter roads. Fitting one would likely be cost-prohibitive unless one of the other Lancer models had one to pull parts from.

Treating the rear window thoroughly with Rain-x helps keep it pretty clear.

 

Hmm, how about the older lancers? I know none of the new ones come with this option. The reason I am so interested is that more often than not, a lot of salt and mud do end up on the rear windshield because of the places I go to.

Hell, even the washer fluid tank is in the rear for the X, it might even be possible to put one with a sprayer.

I know I'm pushing it, but hey, I am all up for suggestions guys.

 

I'm sooo happy the x didn't come with a rear wiper. The first thing I thought when looking at the VIII's is the wiper's gotta go.

 

I don't think there are any off-the-shelf options for you if you are looking for a rear-wiper. None of the new lancer models come with this so there's no easy way to retrofit it into the car. You might want to wait until the sportback version to come out to see how well the OEM part works for it, but wipers have a particlar shape that's formed for the curvature of a specific window, so there'll be lots of custom work to get that working.

If you want to clean your rear windows while driving, your best bet is probably to install some high pressure nozzles to spray windshield fluid on the back (sans wiper). at least you'll be able to knock away some of the mud and salt.

Or you could always have a friend hang out the window with a squeegee. To adjust the speed, give him a red bull.
